Anita Myers Magidson, 64, was a vivacious, feminine, witty hub of energy who died Saturday, January 5, 2013, after a long fought battle with cancer.
Anita was best known in life as a wonderful, wise friend to many; a devoted and perpetually smiling wife to Ken; and loving mother to Amy and grandmother to Macy and Selah.
Her career was spent as an administrative assistant and court coordinator in the Harris County District Attorney's office and criminal court system. She was hired by then-District Attorney Carol Vance in 1970 where she quickly became a benevolent force and a center of knowledge for the office. When secretary to Jim Larkin, she vetted all the new assistant district attorneys, and she held the keys to the assignments for the intake division.
A smart and organized woman, Anita started scrapbooks for the Harris County District Attorney's Office, pulling from the then-morning Houston Post stories and the afternoon Houston Chronicle pages. These scrapbooks now supply the Harris County archivist with an important look at the history of the office.
She was hired by former prosecutor Rick Trevathan when he became a state district judge in the 182nd district court. As Trevathan's court coordinator, Anita deftly handled the lawyers, families, and reporters wanting her attention and knowledge daily.
In 1980, Anita married one of the young prosecutors she met at work - Ken Magidson, who is now the U.S. Attorney for the Southern District of Texas and who served as Harris County District Attorney himself, appointed by the governor after a resignation.
Anita left Harris County just after she gave birth to their daughter Amy. Anita continued her efforts to always give to others by volunteering at Amy's schools and by her volunteer work at her church, White Oak Baptist Church.
Anita is survived by her husband Ken, her daughter Amy George and son-in-law Jeff, and their children Macy and Selah. She is also survived by her sister Amelia Stewart and her husband Jerry, and her other sister Alisa Myers as well as many nephews, nieces, and cousins. She was preceded in death by her parents Otha Oscar and Audrey Lucille Myers.
A graveside service will be held at 10 a.m. on Wednesday, January 9, at Woodlawn Cemetery, 1101 Antoine Drive, Houston, and will be followed by a memorial service at 11:30 a.m. at White Oak Baptist Church, 3615 Mangum Road, Houston. This memorial service will be followed by lunch at the church. In lieu of flowers, Anita has requested that remembrances be made to the International Mission Board in care of White Oak Baptist Church, 3615 Mangum Road, Houston, 77092.

There are so few words that provide any consolation at this time. I can offer just one: love. May the love that sustained Anita and her family and provided them joy in life, comfort them now in their grief and provide them that peace which passes all understanding. My heart hurts as I think about our great loss. The Lord has called you home and you are now at peace. However, in my selfishness, I will miss you greatly here with us. Our Friday night Mexican, which you hated, but endured with the mariachis. Our Sunday evening grills, where we solved our children's problems, the world's problems, and whatever sports was on that day. Thank you for being such a good friend all these years; it will be hard for us down here, but what great memories we will cherish. Please make sure to check on Hunter, I know he is excited you are there to let him outside! I love you!
