Charles Orr Obituary
Charles Lawrence Orr
1927-2017
Charles Lawrence Orr, 90, of Houston, TX, died peacefully on September 29, 2017, surrounded by his family who were so important to him.
Charles was born in Houston, TX, September 18, 1927 to Winnie and BF Orr. He met his future wife Patricia while attending Rice University where he graduated in 1948. They were married March 11, 1951 and started their family soon thereafter. Charles found his niche professionally as a Civil Engineer where he worked 26 years for the City of Houston Public Works Dept.
Charles' family was the most important thing in his life. He was a dedicated father to his two children Debbie and Ben. His lifelong love of fatherhood continued as he played an active and formative role in the lives of his four grandchildren and seven great grandchildren who knew him as Papaw.
Charles was an Eagle Scout who taught his kids and grandkids many practical life lessons that will continue for several generations. He lived his life believing we should all "leave the campground cleaner than we found it." This belief was practiced literally and figuratively until his last days.
Charles is survived by his brother Russell Orr; children Deborah Gouge and Ben Orr; grandchildren Becky Moffett, Vicky Gouge, Jennifer Gouge and James Gouge; seven great grandchildren and numerous nieces, nephews and extended family.
Services will be held Friday, October 6 at 11AM, Earthman Hunters Creek Funeral Home, with internment to follow at Woodlawn Cemetery.
