1934-2015
John Purifoy Gulley Jr., (80) passed on February 19, 2015. Born March 18, 1934, in Shreveport, La., John graduated from Jefferson Davis High School (1952) and The University of Texas at Austin (BBA, 1961). He served in the Army at West Point Military Academy.
John was a certified YMCA Director, owned a printing company, and spent most of his career as a Real Estate broker, owning John Gulley & Co. until retiring to Galveston (2000). His interests included church, genealogy, Sons of the American Revolution, Jamestowne Society, travel, and Corgis.
John is survived by his wife of 51 years, Mary Louise (Meyers) Gulley; daughter, Lynnette Louise Gulley; son, John P. (Trip) Gulley III, wife, Danelle, and grandson, Jack; brother, Mike; and numerous nephews, nieces, and cousins.
John was preceded in death by his parents, Cloye Mae "Peggy" (Cupples) and John P. Gulley Sr., and brother, Ralph.
The memorial service will be held at 11:00 a.m., Friday, February 27, 2015, at First Methodist Church, 1320 Main St., followed by a lunch reception in the Fellowship Hall.
A graveside veteran's service will be held at 10:45 a.m., Monday, March 2, 2015 at Houston National Cemetery.
