Julia Echols Obituary
Julia Ann Natalie
(Kniker) Echols
1935-2015
Julia Ann Natalie (Kniker) Echols passed away after a long and courageous battle with breast cancer on Thursday, October 8, 2015, at the age of 80. She was born July 3, 1935, in Orange Grove, Texas, to Dora and Rev. Paul Kniker, who precede her in death.
Julia received a Bachelor of Fine Arts in Music and Education from the University of Texas in 1957. She started her teaching career in the Austin ISD before moving to Houston in 1961. She taught music for 34 years and was a music teacher in the Houston ISD for 30 years, working in their magnet school program toward the end of her career.
Julia was a devoted wife to her husband, Sid, for 57 years. They were true soul mates and married in 1958. Sid was the love of her life and she was his. They never had children of their own, but loved their nieces as if they were their own. They retired to Fair Oaks Ranch in 1993. She loved her peaceful piece of the Texas Hill Country that was home to her beloved deer that roamed their property.
Julia is survived by loving husband, Sid Echols; her sister, Janice Kniker Lee and husband Don of Houston; her beloved nieces, Lisa Lee White and husband Steve of Houston and Jennifer Lee Curtis of McKinney; and great nieces, Lauren Anderson of Houston, Kelsey Anderson of Orlando, FL, Kim Curtis of McKinney, and Kaley White of Houston.
The family would like to thank Visiting Angels in Boerne for their care and compassion during this time.
Per Julia's wishes, a graveside service will take place at the Boerne Cemetery on Monday, October 12, 2015, at 2:00 p.m. with Pastor Mariola Bergquist of St. John Lutheran Church officiating. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the at 5005 LBJ Freeway, Ste. 250, Dallas, TX 75244 or online at www.komen.org.
