On Friday, August 9, 2019, Rebecca Kathryn Sossaman Smith, loving wife, mother, Mimi, sister, aunt and friend was taken from us too soon.
Becky was born August 29, 1952 in Houston, TX where she attended Westchester High School and The University of Houston.

Becky had a long and successful career in the Caterpillar parts industry. She was one of the first few women to break through this male-dominated career field. She worked 35+ years in the industry, most recently with Worldwide Power Products working with a team she loved . She was a subject matter expert in her field and was respected by those who worked with her.
Becky was a true animal lover, volunteering her time and home to many rescued dachshunds throughout the years. She was known for her quick wit, generous spirit and truly kind heart.
There will be a private memorial service for family members and close friends at Woodlawn Funeral Home on Monday, August 19 at 10am. A separate reception will follow; the family welcomes any and all who knew and loved Becky to join us in celebrating the beautiful life she led.

we were Spades partners in Midland, lots of laughs. I missed her when she moved, to go enjoy new grand baby, and be with her daughter. She and Jeff came to help me fix rotted out floor in my bathroom about 16 yrs or so ago ... I just learned this sad news. I'm in shock. Condolences to all her loved ones. Later learned she knew my sister through Doxie rescue <3

Becky was one of the most knowledgeable people I have ever met when it came to Caterpillar engines. I learned a lot from her over the years. She was a great friend and a true joy to be around. Her presence in the used parts industry will never be forgotten or even matched for that matter. She will be deeply missed. I send my deepest condolences to the Smith and Sossaman families through these times.

Becky, You where the hugs that I needed and my cloak of safety during the not so sunny part of my childhood. I couldn't wait for the weekends with you. It was with you that I learned that everything was going to be OK.
I admired you for your since of adventure, and your strength. Thank you for all you have unselfishly done for me.
I thank God that I still get to see you in my dreams. I love you big sister

The mere mention of Becky Sossaman's name always put a smile on my face! Fun, sweet, and dear. As a fellow Wranglerette, we had many occasions to laugh and talk...and laugh. I wish your family love and please know that Becky brightened so many lives!
To echo Anne, please post what your wishes are if there is an organization or otherwise where we can honor her memory.
Much love to your family.

Becky and I got to know each other at WHS. Lost touch over the years and then one day, there was a friend request on FB!

We reconnected and kept in pretty regular contact, esp after we both moved back to Houston. As adults (or our versions of adulthood), we couldn't be more different. 180 degree views on politics, gun control and a number of other things that have driven friends apart, esp the past few years. But we always were able to see the humor in things and agreed to disagree. She was so kind and supportive when I was dx w breast cancer almost 3 years ago and we certainly connected over damage done to our homes and psyches with that damn Harvey. Lately, I've been dealing w my mom who has pretty severe dementia and keeps me busy, so I haven't been on FB much at all this year.

So I was just completely taken by surprise w this news. I hope she had recovered from her medical issues of a few years ago; she certainly seemed to be living life to the fullest!! I am so so sorry for all the shock and pain that you're living w right now. I hope the knowledge that Becky was so loved by so many helps to ease that somewhat.

Remember only the good things and how she loved all of you so damn much. She was constantly bragging on Amy and her family and how proud she was of all of you. Becky was absolutely THE proudest grandmother I've ever known!! We often commiserated on how hard it was sometimes to be the alpha child (what my sibs have taken to calling me) but how we wouldn't change a thing.

If there is a charity I could donate to in her memory, could you pls let me know? I know she loved her doxies as much as I love my Airedales and other rescue dogs and I'd like to donate to her favorite rescue if possible. I'm so sorry I can't make her memorial service but I have 2 drs appts scheduled for that day.

She will be missed.
With love
Anne

A "Queen" of the Used Parts Industry, always a joy to be with and around, very thoughtful of all she did. A leader with great ideas.
I have known Becky since 1984, and always a smart witty person. I will miss the phone calls and talk of our children and family.
All my condolences to the Family and their loss, but we will all have good memories of Becky. Marty Miller
