Robert Dawsey Obituary
Robert Joseph Dawsey
Robert Joseph "Bob" Dawsey departed this world peacefully to rejoin his loving wife of 49 years, Loretta, on September 8, 2017. Born in Mobile, Alabama in 1930, son of a grocery store owner and devoted mother. Robert proudly served with the Air Force stationed at Ellington Air Force Base in Houston, Texas where he later married and made his home for 56 years. He built his career in newspaper advertising sales primarily with the Houston Post and Houston Chronicle.
Robert is survived by his only child, John, his wife Yvonne and grandson and granddaughter Ryan and Catherine. Robert was preceded in death by his wife Loretta (Roberts) Dawsey, parents Leo and Mary Dawsey, his brother Thomas Leo, and his sisters Ann, Mary and Betty.
Robert lived life on his terms and beat to his own drum. Unapologetic, he was not one to follow standard conventions, but lived his life with great integrity and compassion. Above all, he loved his family and his country. He had great empathy for the underdog and actively defended those less fortunate. He enjoyed meeting others and relished in hearing their stories. Robert was happiest spending time on the water, out on a casual boat ride or relaxing on the dock with friends.
Robert's family would like to especially thank his nieces Betty Ann McNair, Beverly White and Diana Riis who gave such love and care for him. Robert had many friends and neighbors who cared and looked after him in his later years. His family is forever grateful to Anna Pham and the Legend's patrons. He is dancing in Heaven now.
A Celebration of Life Memorial service will be held at Miller Funeral Home on Friday, September 15, 2017 from 1pm – 3pm. The reception is located at 7723 Beechnut, Houston, TX 77074. Robert will later be laid to rest at Houston National Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, please consider a donation to the in memory of Robert's loving wife Loretta Dawsey. www.ALZ.org
