Carole Dawn (Horak) Wolf

Obituary Condolences

CAROLE DAWN (HORAK) WOLF died peacefully on Wednesday, September 3, 2008 of a malignant brain tumor. Dawn was born December 24, 1947 in Niagra Falls, New York to Adolph and Maxine Horak, who always thought of her as a special Christmas gift. Dawn spent the majority of her early years in Corpus Christi, where she attended W.B. Ray High School and Del Mar College. She attended The University of Texas at Austin, where she pledged Chi Omega sorority and was voted Best Pledge of 1967-1968, an honor her mother received many years before at Centenary College (Shreveport, LA). Dawn developed her artistic skills at UT and was awarded a Bachelor of Fine Arts degree. She moved to Houston and worked in several industries while attending The Glassell School at the Museum of Fine Arts. She soon established herself as a respected graphic artist. She married Robert Wolf in 1977, and spent many happy years with him in Houston and Rio de Janeiro. Upon their return from Brazil, she established Dawn Wolf Design, which enjoyed a well-deserved reputation for creativity and quality in graphic design. Among her many notable clients were a number of non-profit organizations for which she felt special affinity and for which she often provided services pro bono. In 1995, Cancare of Houston recognized Dawn as its Outstanding Friend and in 2001 presented her with its highest award, the Earthman Award, in recognition of her contributions to the ministry of CanCare, both as a contributor and a member of the Friends Board. Dawn formed a great many long-lasting professional relationships and personal friendships through her work with CanCare and others, as well as her membership in organizations such as the Houston Society of Illustrators, International Association of Business Communicators and The Professional Group. Dawn was a truly lovely persona kind and gentle lady with a quiet, steady grace, a beautiful smile, a lovely soft voice, a twinkle in her eye and a wonderful sense of humor. Her family and many friends will miss her terribly, yet treasure her memory and love her forever. Dawn is survived by her husband, Harold Robert Wolf of Houston, her sister, Joy Horak-Brown of Houston, and her brother, Ray Horak, of Mount Vernon, Washington. A memorial service will be held at the Bradshaw-Carter Home, 1734 West Alabama 77098 at 2:00 pm on Saturday, September 13. The family wishes to extend its deep appreciation to the staffs of Baylor College of Medicine, St. Luke's Episcopal Hospital, M. D. Anderson Cancer Center and Houston Hospice. Donations in Dawn's memory are welcome at CanCare of Houston. Online tributes may be posted at www.bradshawcarter.com.
