EDWARD DICKERSON Obituary
EDWARD THOMSON DICKERSON, 73, passed away late in the afternoon of November 3, 2011 at his home in Conroe, Texas. E.T. was born in Geneseo, Illinois, but grew up and lived most of his life in Houston, Texas.
Dickerson dedicated his life to Education and Electrical Engineering. All of his college studies were at Texas A&M, where E.T. focused on Electrical Engineering and obtained a B.S., M.E., and Ph.D.
Dickerson first utilized his education by working for TRW where he contributed to the Apollo 14, 15, 16, and 17 flights. E.T. then began his 31 years as a Professor and Administrator for the University of Houston at Clear Lake. In 1984, Dickerson was promoted to Full Professor, and also began his 7 year tenure as Dean of Natural and Applied Sciences. In 2007, he served as Interim Dean. Throughout his academic career, Dickerson, not only received honors for teaching (Technical Educator of the Year), but was widely praised for creating the Research Institute for Computing and Information Systems (RICIS). He successfully forged a long term relationship between UHCL and NASA/JSC which resulted in many federal research grants for RICIS.
Dickerson also contributed to the City of Houston by serving on the Electrical Board for 23 years, 15 as Chairman.
Dickerson was preceded in death by his loving and wonderful role-model mother, Velma Dickerson, who taught for 40 years and continued to serve the community through her church duties, his father, Frank Marshall Dickerson, and his brother, Edwin "Slim" Dickerson.
Dickerson is survived by his devoted wife of 43 years, Helga Dickerson, his loving daughter, Angie Dickerson, sons, Tony Fuller and Mike Fuller, and grandsons Jeremy Fuller and Jimmy Fuller.
Funeral Services are set for 10:30 A.M., Monday, November 7, 2011 in the Chapel at Forest Park The Woodlands Funeral Home. Interment will follow in Memorial Oaks Cemetery. Visitation will be held from 5:00 P.M. until 8:00 P.M., Sunday, November 6, 2011 at the funeral home.
