Georgia Vlahakos Obituary
GEORGIA DEMERIS VLAHAKOS of Houston, passed away on the 9th of August, surrounded by her family. She was 81 years of age.
She was born to Aggeliki and Frank A. Demeris on the 5th of February 1932, in Falanthi, Greece. Beloved mother, loving yiayia, adored sister, aunt and friend.
Georgia's life was focused on her family, her faith and her friends. She was a devoted daughter, sister, wife, aunt and mother, a tireless volunteer at her church and a loyal friend. She also participated with her brothers and husband in their family business ventures. Her greatest joy was spending time with her grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
She is preceded in death by her husband of 57 years, George Billie Vlahakos; her brother, Gus Frank Demeris; and brother-in-law, Johnnie Vlahakos. She is survived by her sons, Billy George Vlahakos and wife, Marena, and Frank George Vlahakos and wife, Paula; her grandchildren, George Vlahakos and wife Christie, Stephanie Esiner and husband Omer, Sofia Vlahakos, Christina Vlahakos and Georgiana Vlahakos; her great-grandchildren, Ellie, Anna, and William Vlahakos; her brothers, Nick Demeris and wife Eleni, and Jimmy Demeris and wife Lynn; her bothers-in-law, Tony Vlahakos and wife Eleni, and Andrew Vlahakos and wife Joanna; her sister-in-law, Maria Demeris; and many nieces and nephews.
The entire family wishes to extend their eternal gratitude to Edna Guzman for her care and devotion to Georgia during the last four years.
Friends are cordially invited to a visitation with the family from five until half-past six o'clock this evening, Sunday, the 11th of August, in the Jasek Chapel of Geo. H. Lewis & Sons, 1010 Bering Drive in Houston, where the Trisagion Prayers will commence at half-past six o'clock.
The funeral service is to be conducted at half-past ten o'clock in the morning on Monday, the 12th of August, at Annunciation Greek Orthodox Cathedral, 3511 Yoakum Boulevard in Houston, where the Cathedral Clergy are to officiate.
Honored to serve as casket bearers during Monday's services are her nephews, Mr. Frank N. Demeris, Mr. Stathy N. Demeris, Mr. John N. Demeris, Mr. George N. Demeris, Mr. John G. Demeris, Mr. James G. Demeris and her godsons, Dr. Taso Mougouris and Mr. Peter Karvelas.
The interment will follow, via an escorted cortege, at Forest Park Lawndale Cemetery in Houston. Immediately following, all are invited to join the family for a Makaria Luncheon, in the S.P. Martel Hall of Annunciation Greek Orthodox Cathedral.
