Charles Seaman Obituary

Charles Knight Seaman III , 73, passed away on June 23, 2014, at his home in Webster, TX surrounded by friends and family. Charles was born on July 7, 1940, in Houston, TX to the late Charles Knight Seaman Jr. and Fay Cook Seaman. He received his degree in Aerospace Engineering from Texas A&M University in 1963 and his Masters of Arts from University of Houston at Clear Lake in 1990. Charles began his career at NASA Johnson Space Center in 1964. He married Sue Ellen (Orellana) Seaman in 1969. Charles had a long and accomplished career at NASA. He worked on projects associated with the Apollo program, as well as the space shuttle and international space station, retiring in 2005 after 41 years. In honor of his involvement in his local community, the City of Houston and his neighbors have named his local neighborhood park after him. He is survived by his wife and three children, CPO Christopher Seaman, USN, of Saratoga Springs, NY (Keri); George Seaman, of Houston; and LT William Seaman, USN, of Yokosuka, Japan; He is also survived by his brothers George(Sarah) and Fred(Pat), and granddaughter, Sophie. A memorial will be held at Crowder Funeral Home 2 p.m. on Wed., July 2.

Charles' mother lived next door to my mother in Lakeway, TX, where I met Charles and his brothers. Charles dutifully looked after his mother. I admired him and appreciated his service to our space effort. We will miss him.
