Obituary Condolences

Kenneth Eugene Masters, age 84, born in Heyworth Illinois on February 21, 1930. Passed away at home, surrounded by family, on July 26, 2014. Ken was the son of Edward Carroll Masters Nellie Faye Bray Masters and the father of Janice Masters Koenig, deceased. He is survived by Ruth Orne Masters, his wife of 63 years, son Keith Masters and wife Beverly, and son-in-law Marcus Koenig. He is also survived by his brother Wayne Masters and wife Linda, his sister, Ann Masters Hamilton and husband Keith, his grandchildren Ricky Koenig, Mathew Koenig, and Kylie Masters, seven great grandchildren, and a multitude of nieces, nephews, and friends. Ken spent his youth in Illinois, Missouri and Oklahoma. He attended the University of South Carolina and the University of Oklahoma, from which he received a Bachelor of Science degree in Geology. Upon graduation he served three years in the United States Navy during the Korean War. He then resumed his studies at the University of Oklahoma, earning a Masters degree in Geology. He began his professional career in 1954 employed by Standard Oil of California (Chevron) in New Orleans, Louisiana. In 1971 he moved to Houston, Texas (living in Conroe), where after he was employed by several independent oil and gas companies and worked as an independent consultant. He had a long and successful career as a petroleum geologist and corporate executive. Ken was a member of Lambda Chi Alpha fraternity, a Paul Harris Rotarian, and an elder in the First Presbyterian Church of Conroe. He was a 60 year member of the American Association of Petroleum Geologists and a long standing member of the AAPG Foundation. He enjoyed golf, hunting and fishing with his wife Ruth and travelled extensively in Africa, South America, Canada and Hawaii. He was a loyal but humble fan of the Oklahoma Sooners. Visitation is scheduled for Monday, July 28 at 5:00 P.M. at Cashner Funeral Home in Conroe, Texas. A memorial service will be held Tuesday, July 29 at 12:30 P.M., also at Cashner Funeral Home.
