Wendy Wagner Obituary

Wendy Wagner Prominent artist Wendy Susanne Wagner passed away peacefully on September 13, 2014 surrounded by family, close friends, and her beloved puppies Lawrence and Roberto.
Born and raised in Austin, Wendy attended Anderson High School before moving to Houston to pursue her art career, where she graduated with Honors from the Art Institute of Houston in 1992. Throughout the course of her career, Wendy's work has been displayed in many group exhibitions and sixteen solo exhibitions, in galleries as far reaching as Mexico and Japan. Her most recent solo exhibition, Look to the Left, debuted in Austin in early 2013 at Women and Their Work gallery and was covered by the New York Times. Wendy's numerous achievements include winning the prestigious Hunting Art Prize in 2008, as well as several scholarships at the Glassell School of Art.
After being diagnosed with malignant brain cancer in April 2012, Wendy literally altered the landscape of every situation that confronted her with the gracefulness and truthfulness of her presence and an astonishing inner peace that the rest of us could only hope to strive for. She generously blessed the world with her pure expression and created an enduring love with Kenneth that is impossible to describe. Wendy's lively spirit will continue to be represented in the legacy of artwork that she dedicated her life to creating, and the influence that she had on the art community in Texas and beyond. Her work serves as an example of her loving outlook on life, the importance of expressing one's individuality, and provides a reminder to laugh and not take life too seriously. She shares it with us at www.wendywagner.com
She is survived by her husband Kenneth Finch, step children Alexis and Cole Finch, granddaughter Simone, beloved parents Barbara and Norman Wagner, sister Cheryl Rugeley, brother-in-law Rob and nieces Rachel and Melissa. She is also survived by her biological parents Judy Babinski, David and Doris Gray, "little" David and Beth, and the extensive Gray family.
On October 5, 2014 a memorial service will be held at 2:30 pm at Live Oak Friends Meeting House, 1318 West 26th Street, Houston, TX 77008, followed by a special celebration honoring Wendy from 5-8pm at Lawndale Art Center, 4912 Main Street, Houston, TX 77002. Everyone is encouraged to wear colors in the spirit of Wendy's work. In remembrance of Wendy, contributions made to the non-profit Wendy Wagner Foundation: Funding Creativity would be greatly appreciated. Please mail donations to P.O. Box 980113, Houston, TX 77098-0113.

Wendy had a soft and beautiful spirit that radiated out throughout her family, her friends, and her work. Her inner beauty was reflected in the love she shared with Kenneth and others closest to her until the end of her psysical life.

Wendy was one of the most ingratiating people I have met in Houston and ALWAYS. The first time I ever saw her paintings I was taken in. She was a local gem in the art community..From all of the posts on FB, what Kenneth and Wendy had together was quite exceptional. No doubt she will leave a very special resonance by all she touched. Blessings to you all

The love and courage Wendy showed us are matched only by the love and courage her husband Kenneth and her friends, especially Tara, showed all of us. Her art and her life were an inspiration, and testament to the fact that you truly receive back the love and courage you give. XO
