Neilitz, Joseph A.

Joseph Antone Neilitz, 92 of Appleton, died Sunday January 27, 2013 at Cherry Meadows Hospice. He was born February 17, 1920, in Manitowoc, son of the late Anton and Adelheid (Wagner) Neilitz. Joseph married Elinor Weiss on August 17, 1946.

Joseph served his country honorably in the US Navy, Navel Air Force during WWII, as an Aviation Gunnery Instructor. He and Elinor were members of St. Therese Catholic Church, Appleton for many years. Joseph became an Eagle Scout in 1937. He was a member of the Appleton Knights of Columbus; He also bowled on the Monday Knights of Columbus bowling league, and the Wednesday Seniors bowling league. He loved to travel, enjoyed gardening, playing golf, cribbage, sheep head, bird watching, and Joseph always had a treat ready for the neighborhood dogs as they walked past his house.

Joseph is survived by his loving wife of 66 years, Elinor; his four children, three sons, Charles (Marilyn), New Holstein, Robert (Keiko), Appleton, and Thomas (Frances), Waupaca; his daughter, Judith Neilitz, Appleton; five Grandchildren, Dr. Joseph (Rachel) Neilitz, Sena, Stephanie, Scott, and Timothy; two Great-Grandchildren, Sydney, and Bryce; three sisters-in-law, Dorothy Neilitz, Manitowoc, Lois (Greg) Meidl, Valders, and Monique Weiss, Neenah; a brother-in-law, Roland (Mary) Weiss, Winterhaven, FL; and many nieces, nephews, and life long friends. He was preceded in death by two sisters, Agatha and Isabella; and two brothers, Roland and Raymond Neilitz.

Mass of Christian burial will be 11:00AM on Thursday January 31, 2013 at ST. THERESE CATHOLIC CHURCH, 213 E Wisconsin Ave, Appleton, with Fr. William Hoffman officiating. Visitation will be at the church on Thursday beginning at 9:00AM until the hour of service. Full military honors will follow at the church. Burial will be at Highland Memorial Park, Appleton.
