Holzinger, Victor R.

Victor R. Holzinger, age 96, a lifelong resident of Manitowoc, entered eternal life on Monday, July 14, 2014 at Laurel Grove Assisted Living Center.

Vic was born on May 28, 1918 in Manitowoc to the late Wenzel and Alvina Swoboda Holzinger. He graduated from Lincoln High School with the class of 1936 and the Manitowoc Business College in 1938. On September 18, 1941, he married his high school sweetheart, Mary Holsen at St. Paul's Catholic Church in Manitowoc. Vic worked for the Panama Canal in Washington D.C. from 1940 to 1942 and then enlisted in the United States Army where he served in the European and Pacific Theatres of War from 1942 to 1946. Upon returning from military service, Vic worked as a sales representative selling heating and air conditioning equipment for the F.J. Kerscher Co., Badger Metals, Inc., and part time at Napp Office and School Supply. He retired in 1981. Vic worked for 16 years part time at the Harrigan Parkside Funeral Home. Vic enjoyed traveling, bowling, making stained glass creations, following the Brewers and Packers, and spending time with his family and friends. He was a member of St. Francis of Assisi Parish, The Holy Name Society, St. Vincent de Paul Society, VFW Otto Oas Post 659, and AmVets Post 99.

Survivors include six children: Vicki (Guido) Lenaerts, Manitowoc; Allan (Mari Ellen) Holzinger, Manitowoc; Mary Kay (Luc) Trekker, Lovenjoel, Belgium; David (Dori) Holzinger, Sturgeon Bay; Nia (Larry) Westover, Oshkosh; Tony (Denise) Holzinger, Manitowoc; 22 grandchildren; 22 great grandchildren; daughter-in-law: Charmaine Holzinger, Denmark; other relatives and friends. Vic was preceded in death by his wife of 57 years, Mary; parents: Wenzel and Alvina Holzinger; son: James Holzinger, and grandson: Mark Allan Holzinger.

The family will greet relatives and friends on Thursday, July 17, 2014 at the Harrigan Parkside Funeral Home from 4 p.m. until 8 p.m. A prayer service will be led by Rev. Dave Pleier at 7 p.m. Vic's family will have a private family gathering at 10 a.m. on Friday at the Harrigan Parkside Funeral Home.

The Mass of Christian Burial, which will be open to the public, will be held at 10:30 a.m. on Friday, July 18, 2014 at St. Francis of Assisi on Waldo, 1121 North 14th Street, Manitowoc. There will not be any visitation at church prior to the funeral service. Rev. William Brunner will officiate with burial to follow at Evergreen Cemetery.
