Manitowoc - Charles R. Szyman, age 66, formerly a Manitowoc resident, passed away on Saturday, February 17, 2018.

Charlie was born February 27, 1951 in Chicago, son of the late Robert R. and Mary Pat (Hughes) Szyman. He was a 1969 graduate of Mount Carmel High School in Chicago, he then attended Chicago State University prior to being accepted to medical school at the Chicago College of Osteopathic Medicine. Charlie was a member of the American Osteopathic Association, an Eagle Scout and a Sea Explorer. He served honorably as a Corpsman 3rd Class in the U.S. Naval Reserve from October 10, 1971 - October 9, 1973 with active duty tours at Great Lakes Naval Hospital and Naval Air Station Key West, Florida (Petty Officer 1st Class) and worked at the Roxbury Veterans Administration Hospital in Boston. Charlie was an anesthesiologist and pain specialist at Holy Family Memorial in Manitowoc for 26 years. He was instrumental in founding the Holy Family Memorial Sleep Clinic.

On July 5, 2014 he married Patricia O. Bundy in Manitowoc. Survivors include his wife Patricia O. Szyman; three daughters and one son-in-law: Rachel Szyman, Elizabeth Szyman, Jessica & Paul Brokenshire; six brothers and five sisters-in-law: Robert & Marie Szyman, James & Patricia Szyman, Thomas Szyman, Lawrence & Carol Szyman, Mark & Valerie Szyman, Peter & Catherine Szyman; one sister and brother-in-law: Marijo & Dean Bjorlin; two step sons and step daughter-in-law: Brodie & Heather Berglund, Anton Uraynar; one step daughter: Angela Uraynar and his mother-in-law Kathleen Bundy. Charlie was a cherished cousin to thirteen, uncle to twenty-one, and grand uncle to seventeen. Charlie was preceded in death by one son: Samuel Szyman-Huston, one sister-in-law: Vanessa Szyman and a nephew: Patrick Szyman.

A Prayer Service will be held at 7:00 p.m. on Friday, February 23, 2018 at the Pfeffer Funeral Home, Manitowoc. Officiating at the service will be Rev. Larry Szyman. Cremation will occur at All-Care Cremation Center, Manitowoc following services.

The family will greet relatives and friends at the Pfeffer Funeral Home on Friday, February 23, 2018 from 4:00 p.m. until the time of the prayer service at 7:00 p.m.

In Lieu of flowers, memorials would be appreciated to the American Foundation for Suicide Prevention.

Charlie was an incredibly generous spirit who helped countless individuals throughout his career. He had a passion for traveling and cruising on his Harley. Charlie was loved to pieces and will be missed more than words can say.
