Schmalz, Dorothy M.

Dorothy M. Schmalz, age 92, a long time resident of Manitowoc, entered eternal life on Friday, May 10, 2013 at the Manitowoc Health and Rehabilitation Center.

Dorothy was born on January 10, 1921 in Milwaukee to the late John and Frieda Luedke Rinas. She graduated from South Division High School in Milwaukee with the class of 1939. She then completed her education at Milwaukee State Teachers College. On June 16, 1945, Dorothy married Herbert Schmalz in Milwaukee. Dorothy spent her life dedicated to her family. She enjoyed music and played from the age of 10, playing in the orchestra in junior high school and high school. After moving to Manitowoc, she joined the Manitowoc Symphony and served as President of the Symphony Board. For 23 years, Dorothy enjoyed playing with the Sheboygan Symphony. She also enjoyed gardening and traveling to distant lands. Dorothy also had a great love of animals.

Survivors include Dorothy's husband of 67 years: Herbert; she was the loving mother of Peter (Nancy) Schmalz, Oshkosh; and Paul (Ramona) Schmalz, Whitefish Bay; dear Nonny of Brian (Emily), Heidi, Daniel and Eric; great grandmother of Greta, Deanna, and Ada.

Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. on Friday, May 17, 2013 at the Harrigan Parkside Funeral Home. Rev. Eric Kolonich will officiate with burial to take place at Evergreen Cemetery. Relatives and friends may call at the Harrigan Parkside Funeral Home on Friday from 9 a.m. until the time of the funeral service at 11 a.m. Following the funeral service, a luncheon will be held at the Harrigan Parkside Gathering Center located on the south property of the funeral home. The Harrigan Parkside Funeral Home and Crematory, N. 11th and St. Clair streets, Manitowoc is assisting the family with funeral arrangements.

In lieu of flowers, memorials would be appreciated to Redeemer Lutheran Church in Manitowoc, the Lakeshore Humane Society, or the donor's choice.
