Jill Mackin Obituary
Mackin, Jill (Swanson)

Jill Mackin (Swanson), 59, passed away on Oct. 7, 2012, of a stroke. Jill passed away at her home in the Blue Ridge Mountains of Floyd, Va.

Jill is the daughter of John and Marie (Witzke) Swanson. Her husband, Michael P. Mackin, preceded Jill in death. Jill is survived by her daughter, Tamara Slife (Nisleit); grandson, Fox J. Slife; sister, Christine Finney, Madison; and nieces; Marisa Morales and Genny Flenory, as well as extended family and many friends.

Jill grew up in Wisconsin, but when her daughter and grandson moved to Virginia, Jill didn't hesitate to follow, finding a cozy, mountain home in May 2007, because, as she explained, "Family comes first." Jill quickly made many friends in Virginia and was able to secure a job that brought her back to her talent and passion: cooking. Jill was the kitchen manager at The Floyd Country Store until her untimely death in October. Jill was known for her gardening skills, as well as her sweet smile, easy manner, and fun spirit. You could always count on Jill for a kind word, and to brighten your day.

Memorial services will be held Saturday, Dec. 29, 2012, at 2 p.m. at Nisleit's Country Inn, 3704 Highland Drive, Port Washington, Wis. Jill's ashes will be spread in the two places she loved the most: The Blue Ridge Mountains and Lake Michigan.

Donations may be made in her name to your local Humane Society.
