Joyce Elaine Thompson, 80, died January 13, 2015 in Tumwater, WA. She was born May 10, 1934 in Lansing, MI to Edward J. and Bertha M. (Jones) Harper. The family lived in the small town of Sparta, MI where her dad operated the local Atlantic & Pacific Grocery Store. Sparta always held a fond spot in her heart. The family moved first to Bethany, OK in 1946 and from there to Nampa, ID in 1948.
She attended College High School where she met her precious husband, Cecil. They dated all four years through high school and were married one month after graduation in 1952. She accompanied him on his military assignments and often worked as an administrative assistant. Her skills included short hand, which was highly valued in the medical and legal field. Her most satisfying position was working as Legislative Aide in the Washington State House of Representatives.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Edward and Bertha, daughter, Brenda, brother, Robert and sister, Helen. She is survived by her loving husband of 62 years, Cecil; son Dan (Donna); daughter Lori Prince; grandchildren: Zane (Anya), Jenna (Brandon), Jeremiah (Madi), Seth (Anna), Jeffrey (Elizabeth), Ashley Prince and Janelle Michele; six great-grandchildren: Philip, Juliana, Rhett, Amelia, Skye, and Ruby.
A Celebration of Life will be held at the Evergreen Christian Community, Olympia, WA on Saturday, Jan. 24, 2015 at 1:00 pm. You may leave your condolences at www.millsandmillsfunerals.com. Services are under the direction of Mills & Mills Funeral Home, Tumwater, WA.
