Robert 'Bob' D. Holmes
March 23, 1948 - September 15, 2015
Robert 'Bob' D. Holmes, 67 of Caldwell, passed away Tuesday, September 15, 2015 after fighting a very short battle with cancer. A Celebration of Bob's Life will be held at 4:00 p.m. Tuesday, September 22nd at the Caldwell Elk's Lodge. Steve Kaufman, one of Bob's best friends for 50 years, will emcee the event. Cremation has been trusted to Dakan Funeral Chapel, Caldwell. Condolences may be shared at www.dakanfuneralchapel.com
Bob was born March 23, 1948 in Caldwell to Willard and Verla Holmes. He moved with his family to Twin Falls where he attended high school, then graduated with an accounting degree from Idaho State University. In 1992, Bob moved back to Caldwell from California and went to work for Dennis Moss at Motor West. He took over the accounting system for Motor West and was there until the company sold in 2012. Bob helped a very good friend, Roger Price, open Home Care Solutions and was one of their Board of Directors. He also did accounting for numerous businesses in Arizona, California and Idaho, along with having countless tax clients.
For the past 20 years, Bob has been a dedicated advocate for children. He was a volunteer for the 3rd District CASA (Court Appointed Special Advocates) program, serving as an advocate in court for thousands of abused and neglected children in the child protection systems of Adams, Gem, Owyhee, Payette, Washington and Canyon counties and was a member of their Board of Directors for 18 years, holding the office of Treasurer. Bob was a founding member of the 3rd District Youth Court and served on their Board of Directors as Treasurer/Accountant. He was also a Board member, Treasurer/CPA/Accountant for our Community Benefit Organization from the beginning. He joined the Mentoring Network Board of Directors in 2005 and for 10 years, Bob graciously and generously gave of his time to share his expertise to keep them transparent and in-line with all of the laws governing non-profit organizations. He was a behind the scenes kind of guy, never looking for glory or recognition, but always looking for ways to make the lives of children better. Bob was one of the greatest 'kid advocates' ever known.
Bob was excited about the pending adoption of 8 year old Evan with his fiancé, Joan Hughes, the love of his life for 38 years.
Bob is survived by Joan Hughes; a sister, Donna (Dennis) Moss; 2 brothers, Steve (Tami) Holmes and Tom (Zoryanna) Thompson; and numerous nieces, nephews, aunts, uncles and cousins. Bob will be deeply missed by all. He was preceded in death by his parents and a niece.
On Bob's behalf, the family suggests that donations be made to The Mentoring Network, 711 N Dover Crt, Nampa, ID 83651; or to the 3rd Judicial Youth Court, PO Box 877, Caldwell, ID 83606, in lieu of flowers.
