Edward William Hurn
December 16, 1923 - February 5, 2014
Edward William Hurn (died February 5, 2014, in Nampa, Idaho)
Edward William Hurn was born December 16, 1923, in Ontario, Oregon to Walter and Bertha Hurn. He attended Sunnyridge Elementary School, which was then a one-room school house in Nampa, Idaho. He graduated from Northwest Nazarene College in 1945. He married Dolores Katherine Bone of Tacoma, Washington in 1947. He was in the first graduating class at Nazarene Theological Seminary in Kansas City, Missouri in 1948. His first pastorates were in Manhattan and Liberal, Kansas. For the next 25 five years he was a pastor of churches throughout the west in Washington, Alaska, Oregon, and Colorado. He served as District Youth President in Kansas and as District Secretary on the Northwest and Alaska Districts.
He is remembered as an outgoing gregarious pastor who challenged his parishioners by his example. He could see the potential in people and encouraged them. He was never content to cloister himself in and was an agent for change. His children remember his morning greeting of "This is the day which the Lord has made, let us rejoice and be glad in it."
He was active in Kiwanis and other civic organizations. He served as President of the Seattle Association of Evangelicals and participated in the U.S. Prayer Track: Mission America/AD 2000 and Beyond as Pacific Northwest Regional Coordinator.
He thoroughly enjoyed gardening and renovating old homes. He was an avid reader who spent hours poring over his books and studying his Bible. He and his family moved to Nampa, Idaho in 2002, after living in Seattle since 1972.
Edward Hurn is survived by his wife, Dolores, and five children and spouses: Janice (and Kent) Hill of Manassas, VA; Dennis Hurn, Valorie Dudgeon, and Michelle (and Darren) McKenzie of Nampa, ID; and Warren (and Kanin) Hurn of Tacoma, Washington; nine grandchildren, and two great grandsons.
