Todd Graham Sorensen
August 17, 1958 - January 3, 2013
Todd Sorensen, a beloved son, husband, father, grandfather, brother, uncle, and friend, passed away unexpectedly in his Middleton home on January 3, 2013. He was 54.
Todd was born August 17, 1958, in Redwood City, California, to Walter and Sonya (Steffens) Sorensen. He attended Hillsborough and San Mateo schools. From a young age, he developed a great love and talent for music and the guitar. After school, Todd set out to use his other talent, painting, in a career. He became a pioneer in the art of decorative and restorative faux painting and eventually started two successful businesses doing conventional painting and also restoring old homes in the Bay Area. At the height of his painting career, he taught the art at the College of San Mateo.
Todd married Maria Guadalupe in 1986. Their son, Kyle, was born the following year. The marriage ended in divorce a few years later. He married Mary Scartin in 1994. When he married her, he gained three daughters-Trina, Lisa, and Noelle. The couple moved their family to Idaho in 1997. Todd then worked as a construction project manager for Woodside Homes, Inc. alongside some of his siblings. He was employed there until 2004, when he became a realtor.
Throughout his life, Todd's greatest passion was Blues music. He became well-known in local music circles for his talent with his guitar, and played in venues throughout California and Idaho. In 2006, he represented Idaho at the International Blues Competition in Memphis, ranking 25th out of 120 of the world's top Blues musicians. Aside from his music, family was the center of Todd's world. He thoroughly enjoyed the family get-togethers that brought him closer with his many loved ones. He also enjoyed traveling in his RV, buying and selling his stamp collection, and watching his beloved San Francisco Giants and 49ers play.
Todd had an incredible flair for entertainment. He could easily light up a gathering with a story of one of his many adventures or a fact that he learned in his insatiable quest for more knowledge. There were few people that lived as colorful and enriched a life as Todd, and even fewer gifted enough to tell about it. He will be greatly missed by all who had the privilege to enjoy his company and know his kind, loving, adventurous character.
Todd is preceded in death by grandparents Alfred and Elna Sorensen and John and Nina Steffens; his step-father Bob Baker; his brother Dirk Sorensen; and his daughter Trina Bibbey. He is survived by his father Walter Sorensen (Beady Ponterio) of Hillsborough; his mother Sonya Baker of Nampa; Mary, his wife of 18 years; their children Kyle (Style) Sorensen of San Mateo, CA, Lisa Willson (Jereme Masak) of San Francisco, CA, and Noelle Jeanblanc (Danny Klamerus) of Boise; grandchildren Jordyn, Natasha, RJ, Tommy, Frances, Zachary, Ciara, Alexis, and Lelaina; sisters Cici (Hugh) Giguiere of Middleton and Carey McKinnon of Bend; and numerous loving nieces and nephews. A memorial service will be held at 11:00 AM on Tuesday, January 8, 2013, in Breath of Life Fellowship Church at 22108 Pond Lane, Caldwell.
