Agnes "Aggie" (Matteson) Smith, 94, longtime resident of Homedale, passed away on Sunday, December 9, 2012.
Agnes was born on May 4, 1918 in Harlowton, Montana to L.J. and Winifred Matteson. Her family including her 3 brothers; John, Frank and Archie moved to Wilder where Agnes graduated from Wilder High School. She married the love of her life, Clint Smith, on December 28, 1937 in Ontario, Oregon. To this union there were 4 sons; James, David, and twins Tom and Jerry. They were married for 48 years until Clint's death. She said, "Oh if you could have seen him dance; he floated across the floor".
After living in several different locations from the Midwest to the Southwest and places in between, they settled in Homedale in 1958.
Agnes graduated with an LPN Certificate from St. Luke's Nursing School, Boise. She worked for the Homedale Nursing Home and the Southwest District Health Department as the Owyhee County Health Nurse until she retired to go fishing with Clint.
She is preceded in death by her parents, John and Winifred Matteson, her brothers, John, Frank and Archie Matteson, her husband, Clint, and her daughter-in-law, Nel Smith.
She is survived by her sons, Jim (June) Smith of Caldwell, Dave of Carson City, NV., Jerry (Starla) of Gardnerville, NV., and twin brother, Tom D. (JoAnn) of Dayton, NV. She is also survived by her 7 grandchildren, 26 great-grandchildren, and 1 great-great-grandchild.
A viewing will be held from 6:00PM-8:00PM on Wednesday, December 12, 2012 at Flahiff Funeral Chapel, Homedale. Funeral services will be held at 1:00PM on Thursday, December 13, 2012 at the chapel. Interment will follow at the Marsing-Homedale Cemetery, Marsing.
Family asks that in lieu of flowers donations be made in Agnes's name to the Homedale Senior Citizens Center (P.O. Box 848, Homedale, ID 83628).
