Betty Fivecoat Obituary
Betty L. Fivecoat
February 5, 1937 - June 3, 2018
Betty Fivecoat, 81, of Caldwell, passed away Sunday, June 3, 2018. Betty and her twin sister Bonnie were born at home during a severe snowstorm on Feb 5, 1937 in Sterling, Idaho to Dean and Hertha (Wugk) Larson. The following year another set of twins were born (Carol and Carl), making 14 children. Betty grew up in Blackfoot, Idaho during the Depression. Her father was blind and her mother was a compassionate immigrant from Germany. Betty learned hard work at an early age working in the potato fields with her siblings. She graduated from Blackfoot High School in 1955 and attended business college, becoming a legal secretary. It was while working at a law office that she met her husband. She married Frank Fivecoat in 1958, gaining two step-sons, Kory and Jim. In 1960 they moved to the Caldwell area where they farmed, ranched, and raised quarter-horses and their two children, Alisha and Greg. Betty continued her career as a legal secretary and was awarded Legal Secretary of the Year, and served as President of the Legal Secretaries Association. She was widowed at age 39 when Frank was killed in a tractor accident. She was fiercely independent and continued to raise her children on her own. Betty spent her life giving service to anyone in need and went on to volunteer for 20 years at WICAP. Betty loved delivering food boxes, aiding in heating assistance, serving on the WICAP executive board, and serving as the gleaning coordinator. Because of her tireless service she was honored as the Volunteer of the Decade for a tri-state area! She was beautiful on the outside, but more beautiful on the inside. She followed the teachings of Jesus Christ and "went about doing good" all her days.
She was preceded in death by ten siblings, her husband Frank Fivecoat and her two step-sons Kory and Jim Fivecoat. She is survived by three sisters, Doris (Bill) Workman of New Mexico, Bonnie (Tom) Bennett of Utah, and Carol (Don) Grimaud of Utah; two children, Alisha (Jim) Walling and Greg (Racheal) Fivecoat; and grandchildren David, Frank, and Kory Walling; Cody, Lane, Levi, and Rebecca Fivecoat (Jairo Lopez); and numerous step-grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
Services to celebrate her life will be held at the LDS chapel at 519 S 12th Ave. in Caldwell on Saturday, June 16th, 2018, at 1 pm. Flowers may sent to Zeyer Funeral Chapel in Nampa.
