Betty Lou Peterson
May 16, 1927 - January 8, 2016
Betty Lou Peterson of Nampa died peacefully, and surrounded by family, in her home on January 8 at the age of 88.
Betty was a beloved mother, grandmother and great-grandmother who kept her family members and hospice workers laughing with her quick wit and smart sense of humor. She adored her dogs and enjoyed playing cards and putting together puzzles with the family.
Betty, born May 16, 1927, in Portland, Oregon, was one of 11 children. Her family traveled for her father's work as a machinist before settling in Caldwell when Betty was young. After finishing the eighth grade, Betty started working the night shift at Simplot. She enjoyed horses from a young age and remained a cowgirl at heart all her life.
Betty and her husband, Kenneth Peterson, met at the age of 15 at the Nampa Rollerdrome. The two were together 72 years and raised five children, first settling in Idaho Falls then moving to Nampa in 1970, where they would spend the rest of their days. They also enjoyed family gatherings at the cabin they built in Donnelly. Kenny passed away in December of 2014.
Betty was a caring wife, devoted mother and phenomenal grandma. She was always sure to send the family home with a hug and a "We'll see ya tomorrow."
Betty was very skilled with handiwork. She crocheted many beautiful pieces, made quilts, ornaments, clothing, candy and numerous crafts. When her sons, Bobby and Dale ("Pete") were deployed, Betty would send them care packages full of goodies.
Betty leaves behind her daughters, Janet Emmons, Darlene (Stephen) Laws, and Roxanna Tucker, all of Nampa; eight grandchildren; 12 great-grandchildren; sister, June (Willard) Ford of Emmett; and two dogs, Mack and Sam.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Kenneth Peterson; sons, Bobby and Dale "Pete" Peterson; grandsons, Spencer Emmons and Caleb Tucker; nine siblings; many wonderful friends; and her beloved dogs, Corky and Buddy.
Family and friends will celebrate Betty's life at a memorial service at 10:30 a.m. on Saturday, January 16, at Alsip and Persons Funeral Chapel in Nampa.
