Bobby "Bob" Dale Allen
April 25, 1938 - May 24, 2016
Bob D. Allen, 78 of Caldwell died Tuesday, May 24, 2016 at home, due to complications from cancer. He was surrounded by family at the time of his death. Graveside services will be held Tuesday, June 7, at 11:00 a.m. at Canyon Hill Cemetery, Caldwell.
Bob was born April 25, 1938 in Caldwell, to Mary and Joe Allen of Greenleaf, Idaho. As a young man he worked the family farm and was a member of the Idaho National Guard. He graduated from Wilder High School in 1956, after which he worked at Kings Variety, Martin Wholesale and then Idaho Candy Company for the next 34 years. Bob enjoyed the outdoors: camping, fishing, and hunting. He loved his garden and shared its wealth with many. He was an avid bowler, making it into the Caldwell USBCA Hall of Fame in 2009. Bob married Betty York in 1965 at the First Methodist Church in Caldwell. They surrounded themselves with many good friends and family through the next 51 years of marriage. The "Candy Man" will be greatly missed by all.
He is survived by his wife Betty, three sons; Bruce (Karen), Mike (Pepper) and Jeff, and daughter Christy (Brent), his brother Don (Alberta) and sister Anna Bick as well as nine grandchildren, seven great grandchildren, and numerous nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents, a step-mother Ethelyn and older brother Bill. Friends and family are invited to gather at the Caldwell Elks Lodge following the service.
The family would like to thank the caregivers of Legacy Hospice and St. Al's Cancer Center for their help and support. The family requests that in lieu of flowers, contributions be sent to The Elks Rehabilitation Center.
