Burk A. Schindel
September 29, 1924 - January 9, 2017
Burk was born in Nampa, Idaho on September 29, 1924, to Bessie Baine and Wallace Schindel. He grew up in the Nampa area and graduated from Nampa High School in 1943 and immediately enlisted at the Navy Training Center in Farragut, Idaho. He was assigned to a destroyer that was involved in many campaigns throughout the South Pacific. During his Navy service he received the following commendation; Asiatic Pacific Campaign medal, Philippine Liberation medal and World War Two Victory Medal.
He joined Mountain Bell Telephone Company in 1946 after his honorable discharge. He started his career at Mtn. Bell as a lineman working his way to a second level management position.
On August 29, 1953, he married the love of his life, Dorla Jo Hogenmiller at St. Paul's Catholic Church in Nampa. They were blessed with four children: Mike, Sammy, Kristy and Jim.
As his career at Mtn. Bell continued, he moved his family all around Southern Idaho. He retired from the phone company in December 1983.
He enjoyed his retirement life by building a cabin at Ten Ax Ranch near Lowman, Idaho, where he and his family enjoyed many years of happy memories.
Throughout his lifetime he was a Boy Scout leader, member of the VFW, the Telephone Co. Pioneers, Elks BPOE#1389, Knight s of Columbus Honorary Lifetime member 4th degree, avid hunter, fisherman and gardener.
He led a long, successful life. Job well done! He was an amazing husband, father and grandfather who will be greatly missed.
He was preceded in death by his Mom and Dad.
He is survived by his loving wife Dorla Jo, his son Mike(Lesia), his daughter Sammy(Monty), his daughter Kristy, his son Jim(Karlyn), his sister Norma Jordan, and his special four legged feline nap time buddy, Roscoe.
He has seven grandkids; Chad, Shannon, Joe, Katie, Connor, Brennar and Miranda and three great grandkids; Logan, Sophia, Harrison, and a new little one coming in February.
A rosary will be held 10:00am on Tuesday, January 17, 2017 at Holy Apostilles Church, followed by mass at 11:00am.
