He was born March 27, 1935 in Lusk, Wy to Ed and Irene Ruffing. He was raised in Wyoming graduating from Basin High School in 1953. Flying was a passion of his earning his private pilots license in 1953 while still in high school and was one of the youngest in the state of Wyoming to get his commercial license. He married Barbara West and to that union three children were born, Debra, Kathy and Charlie. In 1960 the family moved to Nampa with Chuck flying for Harry Clark crop dusting at night to protect the bees. He logged many flying hours as a flight instructor, was active in flying clubs, towed sail planes, dropped skydivers, and had many fun stories of his aviation adventures. He also worked for 20 years at Amalgamated Sugar. His family has many fond memories of camping trips and boating with Dad driving the boat so he didn't have to water ski. In 1991 he married Dayle Baker Brooks. They had many good times traveling the US and abroad enjoying fun and adventure with his sister and brother in law Joan and Gene Brown. In 2010 they retired to Sun Lakes, AZ and continued to enjoy a variety of activities.Chuck was a member of the Sun Lakes Tennis Club, Sun Lakes Bowling League, Nampa Elks Lodge, and Ten Mile Christian Church. He enjoyed the Reno Air Races, radio controlled airplanes and numerous flying organizations.
