Dan Campbell
December 27, 1945 - February 23, 2017
Boise - Danny (Dan) Lee Campbell, age 71, died on February 23, 2017 at Boise Veterans Hospital after a long battle with lung cancer. He is survived by his wife Linda, three children: Tawnie Hedrick, Dawn Houghton and Jim Fuhriman. He also leaves behind seven grandchildren, John Wilson, Danielle RaelynnNadeau, Chantell Mullins, Cody Houghton, Chris Houghton, Alyx Fuhriman, Kajsa Fuhriman and nine great grandchildren.
Dan is a veteran of the Vietnam War where he served with distinction in the Seventh Fleet in missions stretching from the Taiwan Strait to the Gulf of Tonkin and in which he received several battle commendations and awards. He was born in Yuma, Colorado and grew up in Colorado Springs, CO., as the son of Lloyd Campbell and Orena Threlkel. As a child, he learned to play the drums, which drove his Mother crazy. As an adult he enjoyed volunteering with the Fire Department and worked as an EMT with Clatsop County. For many years Dan enjoyed driving freight trucks and hauling cattle. He drove freight across the width and breadth of the United States and knew almost every highway. During this time he learned to tell jokes for thirty minutes straight and always could be relied upon for a good story. He loved to dance and listen to old traditional country music. He was a proud American Patriot that always stood for the National Anthem, recognized his fellow Veterans and made sure that returning Service Members were always welcomed home. The patriotism he learned in the Navy never left him as friends and family will attest.
A Memorial will be held Friday March 3rd at 4:30 p.m. in Melba, Idaho at the Melba Legion Hall. Dan will be honorably interred at the Boise, Idaho Veterans Cemetery.
