Darrell Ralph VamKleek
June 16, 1933 - July 5, 2015
Darrell was born in Portland, Oregon on June 16, 1933 to Ralph and Willie VanKleek. The family moved to Boise in 1947 and Darrell graduated from Boise High School in 1951. In April 1952 he enlisted in the U. S. Army, married his high school sweetheart,
Sue Wait, April 10, and left on the train for Fort Lewis on April 18. His basic training was at Camp Roberts, Calif. and Sue was able to live and work there. He received his orders to be at Camp Kilmer, New Jersey on December 22, 1952. He spent 15 months as a Military Policeman in Germany near Garmisch and was discharged April 1, 1954. He enrolled at BJC that September, graduated in 1956 and finished his schooling at the University of Oregon in March, 1958. He was hired by Del Monte in Portland and was transferred to their office in San Francisco and later to Encinal Terminals at Oakland. The family lived in the East Bay area for 3-1/2 years before returning to Boise in 1962. He worked for Gate City Steel for 6 years and then to BSU in 1968 as an accountant. He retired as controller in June 1995 and he and Sue had their house built on the Snake River in Owyhee County. He enjoyed every day of his retirement.
He is survived by his wife, Sue, four sons, Mark, Pat (Shauna), Scott (Robin) and Craig (Laurel); six grandchildren, Max, Nick, Devon, Nora, Will and Oliver and two great grandsons, Logan and Victor and one on the way. Donations may be made to any animal shelter. Cloverdale Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
