David "Dave" D. Caldwell
March 21, 1932 - December 31, 2015
David "Dave" D. Caldwell, died December 31, 2015, at home in Nampa, Idaho. Dave was born in Riverside, CA, on March 21, 1932 to C. Fred and Gladys (Cornelius) Caldwell.
Dave graduated from Poly High School, Riverside, CA in 1950. That following summer he and some friends worked on a cattle ranch in Greeley, CO. Soon after, Dave joined the U.S. Navy and served during the Korean War, transporting soldiers. After serving he returned home and went to work for the Pacific Telephone and Telegraph. In 1959, Dave married Ruth Fitch. In 1960, Dave adopted Ruth's three sons and they had one more son. Together Dave and Ruth raised their boys on one acre and were active in 4H and FFA.
In 1970, Dave moved his family to Nampa, ID and transferred to Mountain Bell and then retired in 1985. Dave became very active in the Meridian Athletic Association as well as bowling, fishing, and hunting. Dave was also an active member of the Gem State Regional Group of Blind Veterans. In his later years Dave volunteered at Hands of Hope.
Dave is preceded in death by his parents, brother, Connie Caldwell and his eldest son, Merle Caldwell. Dave is survived by his wife, Ruth; sons: Gym Caldwell, Mike (Julie) Caldwell, Dan (Melanie) Caldwell and grandchildren: Adam, Jenevieve, Mason, Melanie, Marie, Mickey, Alan, Stevi, and 13 great-grandchildren.
In lieu of flowers donations can be made to Gem State Regional Group of Blind Veterans at 3313 W. Dewey St., Boise, Idaho 83703 or to Hands of Hope at 1201 S. Powerline Rd., Nampa, Idaho 83686.
A Celebration of Life will take place on Wednesday, January 6th, from 3:00 PM to 5:00 PM at 4090 S. McDermott Rd. Nampa, ID. Remembrances may be left for the family at www.AccentFuneral.com. Services are under the direction of Accent Funeral Home, Meridian.
