David A. Hill

Dave was born in Portland, OR to Ruth and Albert Hill. Albert and Ruth had relocated to Portland at the time to find work. Albert was drafted into the Marines. They moved back to the Treasure Valley after the war.
Dave graduated from Nampa High School in 1960. Dave was State High School Calf-Roping Champion in 1960. He attended Boise State University in 1961 and College of Idaho in 1962. While at the College of Idaho he participated in orchestra playing his violin and choir and toured Idaho, Oregon and California performing in many concerts. Dave also attended Cal-Poly Tech in California. He participated in rodeos all throughout Idaho, Washington and Oregon. He attended the Toots Mansfield roping school in Texas in 1962. Dave and his Mom, Dad and sister went to rodeos every weekend in the summer months and practiced all winter months.
Dave moved to Harco Q Ranch in 1964 in Meridian and began breeding and successfully training racehorses. Dave bought and moved to a farm in Kuna in 1971 where he and his entire family continued racing, training and breeding Quarter Horses. David belonged to the ICA, the RCA, and AQHA.
Dave met Sandra Brown on a blind date in 1965 and they were married in her hometown of Monrovia, CA on August 21st 1966. They had two children, Jennifer born in 1970 and Erik born in 1973. They were divorced in 1980. Dave served in the Air National Guard from 1966-1969 in the Medical department as a Sergeant with sharp shooter status.
Dave was injured on Father's Day in 1977 at the Emmett Race Track while he was training a young racehorse. He incurred a Traumatic Brain Injury that left him paralyzed on the left side of his body. He spent the next year recovering at the St. Luke's in Boise and the Elks and finally at his Mom and Dad's home in Kuna on the farm. Ruth and Albert lovingly cared for Dave for the next 30 plus years, until Ruth passed away in 2008. Dave moved to the Kuna Living Center in September of 2009 and to Meridian Care Center in 2014.
Dave has left behind - his Father Albert Hill of Kuna, his sister Eloise Hill of Kuna - her husband Ernie Etchechoury, daughter Jennifer Hill of Seattle and her sons, Sebastian and Imre Pollick. His son Erik Hill of Weippe, ID his daughters Paris Brower of Boise (along with husband Chris Brower) and Savannah Hill of Nampa. Erik's wife Onalee Hill and their children, Harrison, Henry and Holly Hill. He was preceded in death by his mother Ruth Hill in 2008.
Funeral services will be held at Cloverdale Funeral Home in Boise on Friday, July 17th at 4 pm. A viewing at the funeral home will be held on that day from 3-4 pm.
