Delbert M. Parry
August 5, 1926 - May 26, 2012

Delbert M. Parry died peacefully on May 26, 2012 after a long illness of Parkinsons' disease.
Delbert was born on August 5, 1926 in Ogden, Utah, the youngest son of John Atwell Parry and Nina Virginia McEntire Parry. Delbert moved along with his family in 1942, to Nampa, when his father got the opportunity to move with the Amalgamated Sugar Company. Delbert graduated from Nampa High School in 1944.
Delbert served in the Navy in World War II and was a plank holder on the light cruiser, the USS Tucson. Later in life, he was invited as a plank holder, to board & tour the newly commissioned USS Tucson Nuclear Submarine. Delbert was very proud to have served in the US Navy. He taught his children and grandsons some choice Navy terms, such as, gedunk and red lead.
He married his high school sweetheart, Fern Van Houten on August 11, 1946. To this union, 3 children were born, Diane in 1948, Dennis in 1953, and Karen in 1958.
Delbert worked in the building industry, starting out as a floor covering installer, to home builder, to production supervisor at Northland Camps, to purchasing agent at Meridian Wood. An important passion of his was volunteering. He belonged to Nampa Exchange Club, Nampa Chamber of Commerce, Nampa Golf Commission, Girl Scouts and Boy Scouts, Nampa Civic Center, Salvation Army, and was a director of the Snake River Stampede. He instilled these same virtues in his children.
Delbert worked hard and also played hard. He was an avid outdoorsman, skier, golfer and dancer. Fern once commented that Delbert celebrated more wedding anniversaries fishing with Cecil Dobbs, than he had with her. A perfect day for him would include, skiing in the morning at Bogus Basin, golfing in the afternoon at Centennial Golf Course and dancing with Fern at the Nampa Elks in the evening. Delbert was lucky enough to have many perfect days.
The family would like to extend their sincere thanks to Sharon, Karen and Brianna of Horizon Health and to Cindy and Stephanie from VA Home Base Services for their kindness and help in caring for Delbert.
Delbert was preceded in death by his parents, his brother, Atwell J. Parry and daughter, Karen L. Parry.
He is survived by his wife of 66 years, Fern L. Parry, his daughter and son-in-law, Diane and Ed Hohrein of Lincoln City, Oregon, his son and daughter-in-law, Dennis and Katie Parry of Nampa, 3 grandsons, Brian (and Molly) Hohrein of Prescott, Arizona, David (and Kellie) Parry of Dallas, Oregon and Samuel Delbert Parry of Boise. He is also survived by 4 great grandchildren, Madelyne and Sophia Hohrein, Grace and Ethan Parry.
Memorial Services will be held at 2:00 p.m. Friday, June 1, 2012 at the First United Methodist Church, 2717 12th. Avenue Road, Nampa.
