Delma Josephine Grimes
12/18/1936 - 05/24/2015
Delma Josephine Grimes, 78, of Nampa, Idaho, passed away at her home on Sunday, May 24, 2015. Born in Nampa on December 18, 1936 to Loman and Della Smith, Delma was also educated in Nampa, and met her future husband, Donald Grimes, at the Rollerdrome. Don had been stationed at Mountain Home Air Force Base at the time. The two were married on December 24, 1953 and moved to Mountain Home, living in a small camp trailer. When Don was discharged from the Air Force they moved to the Grimes family cattle ranch in Lincoln Co., Kansas. Together, Don and Delma raised a family of four children. In 1968, this ranch family moved to Meridian, Idaho to help Delma's family run a neighborhood milk stand. Delma also worked many years as a sales clerk and a seamstress.
Delma's hobbies included sewing, gardening, canning, quilting, and crocheting. Until Don's death, they enjoyed camping, and fishing together. Following his death, she concentrated on being the best mother, grandma, and travel companion anyone could have. Delma attended Lakeview Nazarene Church until health issues made it difficult for her to get about. While homebound she was an avid reader. She also loved watching the birds feed outside of her window, something she enjoyed in her last days.
Delma is survived by her daughter, Donna Wade; son, James Grimes; sister, Lorna Smith; 12 grandkids; and 7 great-grandkids. She was preceded in death by her husband, Don Grimes; daughter, Ruth Ellen; son, William "Billy"; parents, Loman and Della Smith; brother, Ken Smith; sister, Betty Fletcher; and grandchild, Timica.
A Committal Service will be held for Delma at Meridian Cemetery on Friday, May 29, 2015 at 2:00pm.
