Donald Edmond McKinney
September 11, 1926 - April 19, 2015
Donald Edmond McKinney, 88, of Caldwell, passed away Sunday, April 19, 2015 at St. Luke's in Boise.
Don was born on September 11, 1926 in Cascade, Idaho to Thomas and Vernita (Whipple) McKinney. In his younger years he lived with his family at their saw mill in the mountains above Horseshoe Bend and later attended school in Boise. He joined the U.S. Navy in October of 1944 at the young age of 17, only completing his eleventh year of schooling. He followed up with summer school to receive his diploma for his high school education. Don worked as a carpenter in various places around the North West, spending time in places like Hood River, OR and Stibnite, ID.
Don met and married Miriam Faluks on July 30, 1955 in Caldwell, ID. and they spent 52 wonderful years together, most of them in Caldwell where their two sons, Danny & Nathan were born. They inherited a cabin in Cascade, ID and Don and his family enjoyed hunting and spending time there, together. When he retired he liked to drive a tractor on his son's farm and particularly enjoyed hay bailing.
Donald is survived by his two sons, Dr. Daniel McKinney of Sierra Madre, CA and Nathan (Charmaine) McKinney of Caldwell, ID; grandchildren, Jessica, Kyle and Kaj McKinney and his two nephews and a niece. He is also survived by his brother-in-law, Fred (Lila) Faulks, their children and many special cousins on his wife's side of the family.
He is preceded in death by his wife, Miriam McKinney; his parents; step father, Ted Grieb and his sister-in-law and brother-in-law Maureen and Bill Hilleboe.
A viewing for Donald will be held on Thursday, April 23, 2015 from 6:00 to 8:00 PM at Flahiff Funeral Chapel, Caldwell. A Funeral Service will be held on Friday, April 24, 2015 at 2:00 PM at Flahiff Funeral Chapel, Caldwell. Condolences may be sent to
