Doris Lucille Lorensen
December 19, 1929 - May 7, 2015
Doris Lucille Lorensen went to be with the Lord at her home in Greenleaf, ID, May 7, 2015.
Memorial services will be held at 2:00 P.M. Wednesday, May 13th at Dakan Funeral Chapel in Caldwell, ID. Condolences may be shared with the family at www.dakanfuneralchapel.com
Doris was born in Fortuna, CA on Dec. 19, 1929, to Burleigh and Grace Jackson Roberts. She was the second of three children. She grew up in northern California, where her father worked on the Northwestern Pacific Railroad. The family always looked forward to trips to Eureka on the train, where they would stay at a hotel and see the latest movies. A highlight was when they visited the 1939 World's Fair in San Francisco.
They later moved to Fieldbrook, CA and in 1944 moved to Corning, CA. Doris graduated with honors from Corning Union High School in June 1947.
She met Dale Lorensen, a returning soldier, and immediately fell in love. She had already fallen for him, after seeing his service picture. They were married July 28, 1947, in Corning. They shared over 60 years of love and commitment, which has been an inspiration to their family.
In 1950, they were awarded a 160 acre homestead north of Caldwell, ID and moved there with their young son Ernie. Four other children, Janis, Steve, Glen and Jeannie were born to the couple in Caldwell. Dale loved developing the homestead and increased the farm to 240 acres. In addition to helping Dale on the farm, Doris was a very dedicated wife and mother and a woman of great character, and loved raising and nurturing her children. She enjoyed styling and making beautiful clothing, cooking, crossword puzzles, reading and growing flowers. She always surrounded herself with beauty.
Due to Dale's health problems, they sold the farm in 1972 and purchased an acre across the road, and built a home. They finished raising their children, and in 1975 she went to work at Ida-Best, later called Land O'Lakes, and worked there until retirement in 1995. She adapted and excelled in the workplace, where she enjoyed accounting on the computer.
In 2000, they purchased a home in Greenleaf, ID, overlooking the valley and their homestead. Dale passed away in 2007. With the help of her family, Doris was able to remain in her home until the time of her passing.
She lived a God centered life and loved the Lord. She became a member of First Christian Church in Caldwell, in 1959. She enjoyed singing in the choir, helping at weddings and funerals, teaching Sunday school, making banners and volunteering at the office.
Family was so important to Doris. She is survived by her brother Vernon Roberts and his wife Kari, Folsom, CA and sister-in-law Norma Roberts, Rio Linda, CA; her children Ernie and Evelyn Lorensen, Boise, Janis and Dennis McIndoo, Greenleaf, Steve Lorensen, Glen and Holly Lorensen, and Jeannie Farris, all of Boise; seven grandchildren Eric McIndoo, Boise, Stephanie and Corey Campbell, Greenleaf, Jason and Erin Lorensen, Kuna, Shauna and Danny Childs, Mobile, AL, Ryan and Nicole McIndoo, Nathan McIndoo, and Cameron Lorensen, all of Boise; great-grandchildren Anthony, Adrienne and Austin Campbell, Kyle, Ryan and Eli Lorensen and Jared and Michaela Childs; and numerous nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her husband Dale and his siblings and their spouses, her brother, James Roberts, four nephews and one niece.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Christian Children's Ranch, 2421 W. Duck Alley Rd., Eagle, ID 83616.
