Edna Marie Winchester
September 1, 1941 - February 4, 2017
Edna Marie Winchester, age 75, went home to be with her Lord on Saturday, February 4, 2017. She died of pancreatic cancer at her home in Parma, Idaho surrounded by family.
Edna was born to Arden and Melvie (Botkin) Dyer in Shattuck, Oklahoma on September 1, 1941. When she was 11 they relocated to Nampa, Idaho. She met Edward John "Jack" Winchester on a blind date when he came from Wyoming to visit his sisters in Nampa. Six months later, on August 20, 1960 they were married and she moved to Kinnear, Wyoming to join him on the family cattle ranch. To this union three children were born. Edna was involved in all aspects of ranching including working with the cows, putting up hay, horseback riding, feeding the crew, and bookkeeping. In 2000 they sold the ranch in Wyoming and purchased a smaller ranch in Parma, Idaho that is still in operation today and is run by their son, Larry. After moving to Parma she opened a store front in Caldwell so they could sell their beef directly to the public.
Edna was an accomplished seamstress. Her specialty was wedding dresses. All she needed was a picture or combination of pictures and she would make it happen. Nobody knows for sure how many she made but the last one was for her youngest granddaughter last spring just after being diagnosed with cancer.
Edna was very active in her church both in Wyoming at Sunnyside Church of the Nazarene and in Idaho at Parma Church of the Nazarene. Her activities included serving on the church board, teaching Sunday School and children's quizzing, singing in the choir, coordinating weddings, and organizing events both locally and on the district level. It's easier to list what she didn't do in church. Because of her strong faith and love for the Lord many souls will join her in heaven.
Edna had a big heart and became "Auntie", "Mom", or "Grandma" to numerous kids and teens including more than a dozen that lived with them for a few months to several years.
Edna was preceded in death by her parents and one brother, James Dyer. She is survived by her husband Jack Winchester, three children: Tena (Ed) Benjamin, Mike (Sheri) Winchester and Larry (Debbie) Winchester, eight grandchildren: Melissa (Jason) Hall, Elizabeth (Ryan) Beuke, Daniel Benjamin, Shawni (Marco) Gaspar, Tamra (Jonathan) Demcak, Tyler Winchester, Hannah (Calvin) Fox, Chandler Winchester, and three great grandchildren: Raelyn, Elias, and Eleanor. She is also survived by three sisters, Veda (Bob) Maine, Leona (Bob) Harper, Mary (Dennis) Cartwright, one brother John (Mary) Dyer, one sister-in-law, Judy Dyer and numerous nieces and nephews.
A Memorial service to celebrate Edna's life will be held February 11, 2017 at 11:30 am at Mountain View Church of the Nazarene, 26515 Ustick Rd, Wilder. A private family interment will be held at Roswell Cemetery. In lieu of flowers the family suggests a memorial in Edna's name be given to Parma Church of the Nazarene, 102 E Tucker, Parma, ID 83660, for their building fund.
