Evelyn M. Cummings
October 31, 1924 - June 20, 2016
Evelyn Cummings passed away on June 20th, 2016 at a local care center. Evelyn was 91 years of age. She was born the third child to Charles and Ella Kiester in Hannibal, Wisconsin and moved with her parents while still very young, eventually settling in Marsing Idaho where she graduated from high school.
She met Earl "Bus" Cummings at a dance shortly after WWII and they married in 1947. Together they adopted three children who they loved like their own. Evelyn spent most of her life as a ranch wife, helping with the chores, running for parts, cooking large meals for family and hired hands and raising her children.
The couple owned property in Reynolds Creek and ranched there for many years, raising purebred Hereford cattle. Due to Bus's health, they moved to Caldwell, switched to Tarentaise cattle and ranched there until Bus's death in 2001.
Many of her lifelong relationships and memories were formed as a result of their involvement in the cattle business. Evelyn was active in Cowbelles, serving as an officer on the local and state level. She was also a 4-H leader for many years in Owyhee and Canyon County and was involved with the Canyon County Fair well into her 80's as Superintendent of the Pie Contest. Evelyn enjoyed canning, quilting and traveling with her family. She had an active sense of humor, always joking around, even with her caregivers, until her last days.
Evelyn is preceded in death by her parents, husband Bus, brothers Howard, and Dick Kiester, sisters Opal Cossel and Mildred Fleck.
She is survived by her children, Rob Cummings, Emmett, Renee Cummings and Reva Thompson, both of Nampa, 7 grandchildren, and 1 great grandchild with another on the way; one brother, Russell Kiester, and three sisters, Sharon Sheets, Bonnie Scheuffele and Doris Vaughn.
The family would like to thank Aging Gracefully Assisted Living, Autumn Wind Senior Living Community and Heart and Home Hospice for the wonderful care given Evelyn in her last few years.
