Geraldine "Gerre" Margaret Cain

Gerre M. Cain, 88, of Nampa, passed away on Monday, January 16, 2017, at a local retirement center in Nampa. A Funeral Service to honor her life will be held on Monday, Jan. 23, 2017, at 10:30 AM at the Nampa Funeral Home, Yraguen Chapel, 415 12th Ave. So. - 442-8171. Gerre was born on December 11, 1928, in Payette, Idaho, the daughter of Guy Luther and Cora Mae Cockerum. She was reared and educated in Payette, graduating from Payette High School in 1946 where she was a cheerleader. She attended and graduated from the Peacock Beauty School in Nampa. Following graduation from Beauty School, she returned to Payette and went to work with her sister Dorothy at the American Beauty Salon which was located in their family home. She married Bill Smock in 1950 in Payette where they made their home. On June 4, 1952, her only child Debbie Mae was born. Gerre and Bill were divorced in 1961. In 1970 she married Edward Cain in Payette and they were later divorced. Gerre worked at several businesses in Payette, including American Fine Foods, Payette Beauty School where she was an instructor and she worked for Mountain Bell Telephone. She started college at TVCC in Ontario, Oregon, where she graduated with an Associates Degree after two years. She then transferred to the College of Idaho in Caldwell where she graduated with honors and a BA Degree in Elementary Education in 1968. She returned to Payette and taught 3rd grade, 4th grade and 6th grade at the Eastside and Westside Elementary Schools. She also taught school at McCain Middle School in Payette until her retirement in 1991. She resided in Payette until 1998 when she moved to Nampa to be near her daughter and family. She has resided in Nampa since. Gerre had been a member of the Nampa First Baptist Church and had volunteered at the Nampa Civic Center. She also sang in the Senior Choir. She was a Job's Daughter, a member of the Eastern Star, member of the NEA and a Past President of Delta Kappa Gamma.
Gerre is survived by her daughter and son-in-law, Debbie and Ken King, Nampa; 3 grandchildren, Brad King of Nampa, Ben King of Bend, OR and Amy King of Kuna; 5 great grandchildren, Abby, Emma, Adam, Cassidy and Nolan; and numerous nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by 4 brothers, Guy, Forrest, Bill and Dick Cockerum; and 3 sisters, Hazel Cockerum, Alma Lee Alexander and Dorothy Payne.
