Helene Lemich died at her home in Nampa at age 90 on Wednesday, September 9, 2015 from natural causes.
Helene (Zapletal) Lemich, called "Honey" by her family and many friends, was born in Milwaukee, Wisconsin on January 20, 1925 to Rose and Michael Zapletal. Her family moved to San Francisco, CA when she was a young girl, where she graduated from George Washington High School. At age16 her older brother Joseph Sinor married Julia Lemich in Van Nuys, CA. While visiting there she met Julia's younger brother Rudy Lemich. The two courted and married at age 18 on February 21, 1943, and settled together in Van Nuys where they raised their three children, Jan, Claude and Suzanne.They were married for 62 years until Rudy's death in 2004.
Helene was renowned for her gourmet cooking skills, and her holiday parties were local legends. She was also a professional seamstress and manager of the I.Magnin alterations department in Sherman Oaks, CA. Among her hobbies was cake decorating, and for several brides-to-be she sewed the dresses for the bride and her attendants as well as baking and decorating the wedding cake.
After living in Van Nuys for 30 years, Rudy and Helene moved to Morro Bay, CA where she opened a dressmaking and alterations shop. Among her clients was fitness guru Jack La Lane.
Honey and Rudy moved to Santa Rosa, CA to be nearer their daughter Suzanne, and moved once again to Nampa, ID when Suzanne moved to Marsing, ID.
She is survived by sons Jan Lemich (BerLinda) of Denver, CO, and Claude Lemich of Santa Cruz, CA, granddaughters Jenni (Ryan) Mathis of Santa Rosa, CA, and Valerie Ingraham, San Carlos, CA, and great-grandchildren Emily and Spencer. She was preceded in death by husband Rudy and daughter Suzanne.
