Howard Jim Brock
1934 - 2016
Howard "Jim" Brock passed away quietly at home on Sunday, February 21, 2016 surrounded by his loving family following a brief but hard fought battle with cancer.
Jim Brock was born to Frank Brock and Mildred Nina (Hastings) Brock on September 9, 1934 in Nephi, Utah. He was the first of six children. He grew up working on the family farm and prospected for uranium with his father.
In 1952, Jim married Thelma Cutler while working in the Silver King mine near Marysvale, Utah. After a few years in the mining industry around the Park City area he moved to Salt Lake City and became a car salesman working at Capitol Chevrolet and Streeter Chevrolet. There he worked his way up to New and Used Truck Manager and was recognized as Salesman of the Year several times. He and Thelma had four children together, Scott, Frank "Hank", Linda, and Stan (deceased as an infant); they later divorced.
Jim married Joyce (Pond) Harris in 1968. Jim eventually realized his dream of owning his own car sales business in 1970 when he moved to Nampa, Idaho where he opened Country Boy Motors with a business partner. Jim and Joyce completed their family with Kurt, Shane, and Brady. Jim also expanded his business by opening Brock Motors, known as "The Red Barn". Jim eventually semi-retired in 1996 leasing out his business. Overall, the Jim Brock dealership served the Nampa/Boise and surrounding areas for 26 years. Jim and Joyce later divorced.
Jim was an avid fan of Professional Bull Riding; picking his favorites among the PBR bulls and cowboys alike. He loved the outdoors and took every opportunity to go fishing, hunting, or helping out with the cattle back on the home ranch. He enjoyed playing golf and professed to be somewhat of a master at cribbage, never passing up a hand of poker with friends.
Jim is survived by six of his children: Scott Jim Brock, Frank Jay Brock, Linda Marie (Rick) Hill, Kurt Howard (Traci) Brock, Shane Keith Brock, and Brady Jim Brock; siblings, Judy Walker, Donald Frank Brock, Robert Dale Brock, and Susan June Brock, and 11 grandchildren and 14 great-grandchildren. He is preceded in death by an infant son, Stan; his parents, Frank and Mildred Brock; and a younger sister, Sally Edith Shipman.
A Memorial Service will be held at 4:00 p.m. on Saturday, February 27th, at the Nampa Seventh-Day Adventist Church located at 307 W. Iowa Ave., Nampa, ID 83686.
