Hugh W. Stringfield
February 1933 - June 22, 2015
Hugh W. Stringfield was born in Boise, Idaho on February 12, 1933 to Claire and Kenneth Stringfield, as he put it, "When St. Luke's was just a house". He passed peacefully with his sons at his side on Monday, June 22, 2015 in Nampa, Idaho.
He was an avid outdoorsman, who spent much of his youth enjoying the wonders Idaho "stands out for". Especially enjoying fishing, pheasant hunting and golfing with groups of family and friends he held close throughout the years.
After graduating from Caldwell High School, Class of '51, he received a full ride scholarship to the University of Utah to play basketball. He was in his sophomore year when he was drafted by the US Army and went on to serve his country. He was stationed in Alaska until the war ended.
Upon returning to the University of Utah to finish his degree, he met the love of his life, Dorothy (Dottie) Dillard. September 8, 1957 they eloped to Elko, Nevada.
During their marriage, they were blessed with three sons, Stan, Cal and Sam. His Career moved the family around the Pacific Northwest and Colorado. Hugh enjoyed his career as a retail manager for the Idaho Department Stores, The Merc and PN Hursh for over 24 years. He then was contracted with G.A Wright as a retail consultant until he retired in 1998. He shared his devotion to hard work with hard play in the outdoors of Idaho that spread throughout his generations.
Hugh is preceded in death by his Father, Kenneth F. Stringfield, his Mother, Claire Cranney Stringfield, his wife, Dorothy Dillard Stringfield and his son, Calvin Scott Stringfield.
Hugh is survived by his brother, Fred Stringfield (Bonnie) Sister, Sandra Hood (Dick) and his two sons, Stanley H. Stringfield and Samuel J. Stringfield. He was a wonderful Papa to six grandchildren and 3 great grandchildren and had multiple cousins, nieces, nephews and close friends that will all miss him very dearly.
