James Chad Register
January 5, 1971 - June 24, 2016
James Chad Register, affectionately known as "Chad", passed away June 24, 2016 after a courageous battle with pancreatic cancer. Chad was a loved and well respected police officer, valiantly serving the community of Caldwell for the past eight years.
Chad was born January 5, 1971 in San Gabriel, California, to James and Gail Register. From the time Chad was young, he was brilliant with problem solving, once taking apart a toy motorcycle in the family living room and putting it back together. He was three. Chad's brilliance and ingenuity stayed with him for his entire life, and he used everything he learned to help others. There was never a time where you couldn't rely on him if you needed help. His humor was contagious, and as you got to know Chad, you couldn't help but be affected by it. You never knew what he was going to say, but you were guaranteed to laugh.
Chad became a police officer to help his community, and he loved his work. So much so, that after having major surgery for his cancer, he returned to work immediately and worked while receiving chemotherapy and never once complained. Many people did not even know he had cancer. Chad was a private man, but mostly, he did not want people to worry about him. He consistently put others first and never wanted people to feel sorry for him.
Chad left us much too soon, but he was a warrior who fought the good fight. He was an inspiration for many, many other pancreatic cancer patients across the world who found themselves continuing their own fight because he was.
Chad is survived by his wife, Diana; his children, Stephen, Savanna, Shane and Kaitlyn; his daughter-in-law, Nicole and his granddaughter, Zoe; as well as his mother, Gail; his sisters, Dawn, Linda, and Debbie; his brothers-in-law, Doug, Jim and Pat; his nephews, Michael, Ryan, Shaun, and Anddon; and a large blue family of law enforcement brothers and sisters.
To his patrol team: Chad will be missed greatly but would want you to carry on the legacy he tried to leave behind, one of compassion and service and to stand with one another during this difficult time. He had great admiration for the Caldwell Police Department and his fellow officers, and was proud to serve with you.
Funeral services will be held Thursday, June 30th at 10:00 a.m. at Deer Flat Free Methodist Church, 17703 Beet Rd, Caldwell under the direction of Dakan Funeral Chapel, Caldwell. Condolences may be shared at www.dakanfuneralchapel.com
