Jay Lee Lanningham
05/12/1947 - 06/18/2017
Jay Lee Lanningham, 70, of Nampa, ID, passed away Sunday, June 18th, 2017, following a tragic car accident near McCammon Idaho.
A celebration of life will be held at 2:00 p.m., Saturday, June 24, 2017 at Foothills Christian Church, 9655 W State St, Garden City, ID 83714.
Jay was born May 12, 1947, in Grangeville, ID to Burton and Clarice (Stewart) Lanningham. He graduated from Salmon River High School in 1966 and attended business school in Boise. On June 29, 1968, he married Janie Jackson of Kuna ID. They became parents to two boys, Jeremy (1974) and Jamie (1976), lovingly raised them, and later divorced. Jay was employed in the wholesale building materials industry, and just recently retired from Idaho Western after 40+ years of loyal employment.
Jay could talk a blue streak and spin stories like no other, a characteristic that earned him many friends over the years. His best friend and the love of his life was Lynne Galey of Boise, Idaho. They took road trips, listened to loud music, and shared lots of laughs with their family and friends.
Jay loved spending time with his boys and their friends, and coached numerous soccer and baseball teams as they grew up. In recent years, he was closely involved with all of his grandkids' activities, especially the Cougar Wrestling Club and Columbia High School wrestling team in Nampa. He was passionate about the outdoors and spent many days fishing, big game hunting, and chasing quail. He always served as crew chief to his sons at Firebird raceway. Jay's interests spanned far and wide, but for the past fifteen years nothing was more important than being Grandpa to his five precious grandchildren.
Jay is survived by his two sons, Jeremy Jay Lanningham and his wife April of Boise, ID and Jamie Lynn Lanningham and his wife Becky of Nampa, ID; his five grandchildren, Payton, McKade, Maya, Brooklyn, and Harper; his sister Linda Kovaleski of Meridian, ID; and several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents Burton and Clarice Lanningham, brother Jimmy Lanningham, sister Loretta Benson, and foster sister Cheryl Cofer.
