Jewel Evangeline Dillon
June 30, 1929 - December 7, 2015
Jewel Evangeline Dillon age 86 of Caldwell Idaho, went to be with her Savior on Monday, December 7th, 2015. Jewel was a member of Valley Pentecostal Church in Caldwell ID.
Jewel, born in Oakland CA, was the oldest of 6 children born to C.Haskell & Ruth Yadon. She spent her life serving, teaching, and mentoring others. She received her BA degree from Cascade College in Portland Oregon. During her life, she worked as an educator, writer, social worker, college dean and vocational rehabilitation social worker. In all of these vocations, Jewel has always found a way to minister to others.
In 2002 she authored a book entitled Little Bird: Lessons from David. The book was written to provide hope and inspiration to others who have the responsibility of caring for a severely handicapped person. She wrote this out of her own experience, sharing her grief, challenges and inspirations of raising her own handicapped son David.
After retirement, Jewel selflessly gave of herself to numerous charitable organizations. She has been a champion of adult literacy, serving as a volunteer for both the Laubach Literary Foundation, and the Boise State University Literacy Program. In addition, she earned her 4,000 volunteer hours pin from West Valley Medical Center where she started out as a volunteer courier, and ended up a volunteer chaplain. During this time she was awarded the very prestigious Frist Humanitarian Award by West Valley Medical Center.
Jewel is proceeded in death by her parents C. Haskell & Ruth Yadon, her son David Dillon, and her bother Haskell Yadon.
She is survived by her Daughter Gloria J. Hurst (Dwayne), Gene Dillon, Brothers Elwin (Francis) and Samuel Yadon. Sisters Ruby Rutzen (Norman), and Sharon Roam, and 4 grandchildren, and 5 great grandchildren.
Celebration of life service will be held on Friday December 11th at 1:00 p.m. at Valley Pentecostal Church, 2900 Life Way, Caldwell ID, with visitation on Thursday from 6:00-8:00 p.m. at Dakan Funeral Chapel, and one hour prior to service on Friday.
