John Arthur Witteman
Nov. 27, 1927 - Feb. 10, 2017
John (Johnny) Arthur Witteman, 89, of Nampa, passed away on Feb. 10, 2017. He was a beloved husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather, uncle and friend. He will always be remembered for his love of a good conversation and his avid interest in history.
John was born on Nov. 27, 1927 in Caldwell, to Siche and Walter Witteman. John and his two younger sisters were raised on the farm in Nampa. John met the love of his life, Roberta Wagers, at Nampa High; they enjoyed many hot fudge sundaes at Dixie's Ice Cream in their youth. They were married on June 10, 1949 at the Nampa First United Methodist Church.
John and Roberta lived and worked on the family farm just south of Nampa and raised two beautiful children. John served as a volunteer firefighter for the Upper Deer Flat Fire Department for many years. His son, John R. Witteman, later joined him as volunteer firefighter. John was an incredibly gifted craftsman and enjoyed making many treasured woodworks for his family and friends. He also spent countless hours in his greenhouse and had a world-class garden. John greatly enjoyed fishing trips with his close friends. One of his favorite pastimes was spending time with his three grandchildren with a rousing game of Monopoly or teaching them to shoot with both eyes open. The family would like to extend a special thanks to Linda Andrews for her love and care of John in the last years of his life.
John is survived by his wife, Roberta Witteman, two loving children John Witteman (Linda Andrews); Kristine Blanksma (James), three grandchildren Mary Martinez (Alonzo), Matthew Blanksma (Caitie), and Megan Judkins (Thaddeus) as well as 7 great-grandchildren. John is preceded in death by his parents and two sisters Nadine Marie Hollenbeck (Jim) and Carmond Eileen Cover (Jack).
A family graveside service will be held at a later date. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to St. Luke's Health Foundation, Cardiac Rehab Scholarship Fund, 190 E Bannock St, Boise, ID 83712.
