Juanita (Kersey) Haumann
August 19th, 1922 - March 2, 2017
Juanita (Kersey) Haumann, age 94, died March 2, 2017 with her daughter by her side in Wixom, Michigan.
Juanita Kersey was born to Archie and Bertha Kersey on August 19th, 1922 in Kansas. The large family lived in a sod house on a prairie in Kansas. It was a hard life, but the memories were dear to Juanita's heart.
Later in her childhood, Juanita moved with her family to Idaho. At the age of eighteen, Juanita left home to work as a nanny for a couple that had five small children.
On a blind date, New Year's Eve in 1940, Juanita met Keith Haumann. He was that tall, dark and handsome man you read about in love stories. For Juanita, it was love at first site. Juanita and Keith were married on Nov. 29th, 1941. Keith Eugene, the first of three children was born in July of 1943. Then, World War II took Keith away from the family for two years. In Nov. of 1949, Martie, their second son was born. Shortly after they moved to California their daughter, Nanette was born in California in May 1952.
Juanita took care of the home and raised three kids while Keith worked. She was very good at sewing and made clothes for the family. To help with the family financially, Juanita took in peoples ironing, babysat, and worked for a maintenance company.
The Haumann kids remember as children, summer trips camping their way up to Idaho to visit their grandparents, aunts, uncles, and cousins. Both Juanita and Keith came from big families. There were many aunts, uncles, and cousins for Keith Eugene, Martie and Nanette to become close with at family reunions.
Keith and Juanita belonged to a square dance club. She made them matching outfits. Keith was quite a dancer and Juanita had two left feet. She loved to watch him dance with all the best dancers in the group. Keith loved to flirt and tease the girls. Juanita, not the jealous type, knew she was the lucky girl who would be going home with Keith at the end of the evening.
One thing we all remember about Juanita is that she loved babies. She often helped take care of her relatives when they gave birth.
Juanita was preceded in death by her 4 brothers and 4 sisters. With over seventy years of marriage, Juanita lost her beloved husband, Keith Sept. 2012. She missed those close relationships in her final years.
Juanita is survived by her son, Keith Eugene, son Martie, daughter Nanette Murray (Brian), seven grandchildren, eight great-grandchildren, and five great-great-grandchildren.
Funeral will be held 2 p.m., Friday, March 10th, 2017 at The Veterans Cemetery, Boise, ID. A celebration of her life will be at La Quinta Inn Caldwell, 901 Specht Ave., Caldwell, ID 83605 on Saturday, March 11, 2017 at 5 p.m.
