Judy Flowers Obituary

Judy Ann Pugh Flowers, 59, went home to be with her Lord and Savior on May 31, 2007, after her courageous battle with cancer. Judy was born Nov. 24, 1947, in Perryton, Texas, to Harold and Alice Pugh. She is the oldest of three children. She has two younger brothers, Larry and Bill. Judy enjoyed her childhood in Balko, Okla., on the farm until 1957 when her family moved cross-country to Middleton. There they settled on a farm where there were many fond memories of farm life.
Judy graduated as Valedictorian from Middleton High School in 1966. She went on to attend Northwest Nazarene College where she graduated Magna Cum Laude in 1970 with her bachelor's degree in home economics. While there she met and married Harold Flowers. Together they had three children.
Judy taught home economics at Marsing and Middleton for a total of 10 years. Then she went to work for Canyon Owyhee School Service Agency (COSSA). When the opportunity to teach special education arose with COSSA and it required her pursuing her master's degree, she embraced the opportunity. She received her master's degree in vocational education from the University of Idaho in 1987. She went on to teach Special Education for COSSA for 16 years before retiring in 2006. While teaching special education, Judy became involved as a coach with Special Olympics. She so enjoyed watching her COSSA Coyotes compete in basketball and rejoiced with them in each victory. She was honored for her service as local coordinator and coach in 2005 as Volunteer of the Year for Special Olympics Idaho.
Not only was Judy a special lady professionally, but she felt her greatest accomplishment were her three children. She modeled to them the importance of having a personal relationship with Jesus Christ and an unconditional love for family. While teaching full time, Judy focused her energy on raising her family and making sure they came first. She made certain they had every opportunity to pursue their desires, often sacrificing of herself. Judy enjoyed watching her children compete in sports and rarely missed a game.
When school was out for the summer, she could be found in her yard or garden cultivating beautiful flowers or harvesting strawberries. She took time to travel and enjoyed being outside. She was an avid birdwatcher with over 150 species identified since 1972. Camping, hiking and fishing were things she looked forward to and always had another adventure planned.
Judy was a member of Deer Flat Free Methodist church, served in women's ministries and sang in the choir. She was also actively involved in Delta Kappa Gamma.
Judy will be desperately missed and all who knew her will remember her smile and love of life. We are truly blessed to have been a part of her life and look forward to a reunion one day in heaven.
She is survived by her parents, Harold and Alice Pugh, Caldwell; brother Larry Dean and wife Philece, California; brother Bill Pugh and wife, Kellie, Caldwell; three children, daughter, Rachelle (Flowers) and husband, Luke Baumann, Chewelah, Wash.; son, Brian Flowers, Moscow; and son, Scott Flowers and wife, Camila, Colorado Springs, Colorado; nieces, Kayla and Katie Pugh, Jenna Elgin, and Sarah Dean; loving church family and countless friends.
The services will be held at Deer Flat Free Methodist Church at 10:30 a.m. Wednesday, June 6. Condolences can be sent to the family at www.dakanfuneralchapel.com. Viewing hours will be held between 6 and 8 p.m. Tuesday, June 5, at Dakan Funeral Chapel. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be sent to Special Olympics Idaho, 8426 Fairview Ave., Boise, ID 83704 or see www.idso.org for contribution sheet.

I am so saddened to hear of Judy's passing. She was such a sweet friend. I can still visualize her at our late night sing along dorm gatherings and study groups!
She was always at the top of the Home Ec class....so steady and so smart!
It is so wonderful that she knew the Lord and was comforted by His presence during her illness. She truly reflected the love of Christ.

Judy and I were classmates at Northwest Nazarene University and she always had a smile and kind word to say. At our last college reunion she gave a dynamic testimony of how faithful and loving the Lord was to her as she went through her illness. She will surely be missed. Now she has begun her new life walking with Jesus in His glorious, eternal kingdom.
