Karen McMurtrie, 77, of Boise, died Sunday, May 21, 2017 at her home. Karen Reid McMurtrie was born in Boise Sept. 1, 1939, the day WWII started in Europe. She attended Lowell, North and graduated from Boise High School as a member of the Natl. Honor Society. She graduated from BJC with her RN degree. She married Norman McMurtrie in 1959, had daughter Kristine McMurtrie in 1960, and son David Michael (Mike) in 1962. Norman had a son Bruce McMurtrie also. The family moved to Seattle where they lived for about 20 years. They had great fun camping. They had several trailers and then finally built a nice cabin near the little town of Roslyn, WA. They rode motorbikes, snowmobiles, and cross country skied. Karen also began an intensive two year training program to be a docent at the Seattle Art Museum, which she enjoyed for 13 years. She also taught art appreciation in the surrounding communities through several programs such as Picture Person in the classrooms. She was a Presentation Coordinator who designed and hung gallery art shows and was a Volunteer Coordinator at the Interurban Center for the Arts at Green River College. She was a Program Presenter for the Federal Way Arts Commission. She did private studies with various teachers in oil painting, figure drawing and portrait sculpture. She was also an assistant manager for six years at a large antique shop in Federal Way. When they moved back to Boise, she taught docents for several years at the Boise Art Museum. She also worked about 10 years at several floral shops as a floral designer. She is survived by daughter, Kristine England; granddaughter, Jamie Vick; sister, Janet Mallo; step-son, Bruce McMurtrie and family; and daughter-in-law, Rhonda McMurtrie. She is predeceased by her parents; husband, Norman and son, Mike McMurtrie. There will be no services held at this time. Remembrances may be left for the family at www.AccentFuneral.com.
