Kay Dunn
March 27, 1928 - December 22, 2016
Kay Dunn, 88, of Meridian, passed away on Thursday, December at a local care center. Kay was born on March 27, 1928 to Clix and Helen King in Twin Falls, Idaho. She was the oldest of four children. As a child, she grew up in Twin Falls, Pocatello, and Gooding. She moved to Nampa, Idaho with her family when she was a sophomore in high school. In high school she was majorette and was crowned Nampa's Lettuce Bowl Queen. Her father, Clix, worked in the commercial laundry business and owned the Troy Laundry in Nampa. After high school she attended Denver Colorado Women's College for one year. Kay married her high school sweetheart Don Dunn on December 28, 1948. After their wedding, they moved to Portland, Oregon where they made their first home and Don attended neon sign trade school. They returned to Nampa, Idaho and eventually started the Nampa Neon Company. Kay worked as a bookkeeper for several businesses including Armors Meat Packing Company. Together they raised four children: Susan, Terry, Jack and Dennis.
Kay enjoyed many rewarding activities throughout her life. Her love of collecting antiques eventually led her to sell antiques in several stores in Nampa and Boise in addition to doing appraisals and estate sales. As Kay was downsizing, she was pleased that her love of antiques were passed on to her children and grandchildren. Kay also spent countless hours volunteering. She volunteered for the library taking books to people in nursing homes and also used her knowledge of antiques to help price items at St. Vincent de Paul. She was a devout Catholic and member of Holy Apostles Catholic Church, Legion of Mary, Catholic Women's League, Les Bois Questers Antique Club, and P.E.O. Kay's favorite time of the year was fall because of football season. After giving up her Boise State University Bronco season tickets, she never missed a televised Bronco game.
Kay was preceded in death by her parents, Clix and Helen; husband, Don, and her sister, Barbara Little. Kay is survived by her children: Susan (Ron) Aldrich, Terry Dunn, Jack Dunn, and Dennis Dunn; siblings: Dick (Cindy) King, Judy (Bob) Walker, and her sister-in-law, Wanda Holladay. She is also survived by her eight grandchildren and twelve great grandchildren.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Lucas House, a nonprofit organization founded in honor of Kay's great grandson Lucas Aldrich, focused on helping children with life-limiting illnesses and their families. PO Box 1445 Eagle, ID 83616.
