Leonard "Royce" Rheuby, 84, of Caldwell, passed away on December 14, 2016 at St Luke's in Meridian, ID.
Royce was born December 1, 1932 in Springfield, Colorado to Leonard J Rheuby and Mary "Beatrice" Hooker Rheuby. His parents moved to Idaho from Colorado after he was born, joining family in the Homedale / Caldwell area for some years. They then moved to Mountain Home. He was the only son in the family having 2 older sisters; Rosemary and Carol, and 2 younger sisters; Peggy and Patsy.
He grew up and went to school in Mountain Home, ID area up until he joined the Navy on December 19, 1950. He served in the Korean War for 3 years, serving on 6 different ships during the 9 years he served.
He met the love of his life; Nellie Irene Slocum in Orofino, ID in 1954. They were married on April 25, 1955.
He was a heavy duty diesel mechanic for over 40 years in many different places in Idaho, Washington, Oregon, Alaska and Nevada. In 1993, after 10 years being a mechanic for Newmont Gold, he retired and moved back to Caldwell. He was not ready to retire completely so he decided to drive long haul truck, which he did until he was 72 and he finally retired.
He loved to mechanic with his kids, gardening, hunting and fishing with all his family. He loved telling jokes and stories to anyone who would listen to them, especially his grandchildren. His granddaughter said: "He was the best joke and story teller this side of the Mississippi!" He loved all his family in his own unique way.
He is preceded in death by his parents, infant twin brothers; Frank and Jack, 3 sisters; Rosemary Atkins, Carol Little and Patsy Schlegel. He is survived by his loving wifeof nearly 62 years; Nellie, 2 sons; Dennis Rheuby of Hammett, ID, Douglas (Gail) Rheuby of Mountain Home and daughter; Shirley (Larry) Farnsworth of Caldwell. They have 9 grandchildren; Misty, Christina, Mary, Melissa, Leonard, Michael, Daniel, Eva and Leslie, 17 great-grandchildren and 1 great-great-granddaughter and his many cousins, nieces and nephews. He will be missed by many!
There will be no services. Interment will be at the Marsing / Homedale Cemetery at a later date. The family would like to thank St Luke's Medical Center in Meridian for the great care and comfort they gave him. Condolences may be left at www.flahifffuneralchapel.com.
